Today, Governor Pritzker signed House Bill 1312, which strengthens protections for immigrant and refugee communities across Illinois. This new law ensures safer access to hospitals, courthouses, university campuses, and early childhood centers for all who rely on them. We remain committed to creating a state where everyone is welcome!

It is with deep sorrow that I join countless Illinoisans in mourning the loss of Governor Jim Edgar. As a 2024 Edgar Fellow, I had the privilege of experiencing firsthand his wisdom and unshakeable belief that public service should be rooted in integrity, bipartisanship, and decency.
Governor Edgar’s legacy will always be defined by his steady leadership in an era of great challenge and by the bridges he built across political divides. He was more than a politician. He was a mentor for those of us who understand that government works best when people listen first, seek common ground, and never lose sight of the dignity of those they serve.
The Edgar Fellows program is one way his influence lives on. In our cohort, I saw how he encouraged us to think beyond party alignment, to embrace complexity, to be courageous in doing what is right even when it is hard. I intend to carry those values into my service and to honor his memory by striving every day to leave our state better than we found it.
Governor Edgar’s passing is a great loss, but his legacy lives on in all of us who were lucky to learn from him. I keep his family and to all those whose lives he touched in my thoughts.
Illinois has lost one of its finest. Rest in peace, Governor.
