Based on the design of architect Joseph Lyman Silsbee, this beautiful Victorian glass house was built

Owned and operated by the Chicago Park District, the Lincoln Park Conservatory is a beautiful marriage of glass and iron constructed between 1890 and 1895. With a little help from our friends and the Sausage Tree (Kigelia africana) at the Mitchell Park Domes in Milwaukee (https://www.mitchellparkdomes.com), we use their tree's pollen to pollinate our Sausage Tree by hand. Here, the pollen from their tree is brushed onto our flowers’ stamens. Fingers crossed that baby sausage fruit will appear!!

In The Orchid Display House, we have two very fragrant plants. The coconut orchid which smells like pina colada and The Stanhopea which has a spicy chocolate, vanilla and an undertone of cinnamon fragrance. It's a very fragrant room this week.
