Paid for Citizens for Luis Arroyo Jr Commissioner Luis Arroyo Jr. has a life-long experience in local and state government’s public service. Having previously worked for more than 20 years in the City of Chicago in the Department of Water Management, Commissioner Arroyo was first elected in 2014 and sworn in as the youngest Commissioner to serve in the Co
ok County Board. As Chairman of the Labor Committee, Commissioner Arroyo has been instrumental in ensuring that services for the residents of the County are offered by well trained and appropriately compensated workers while at the same time maintaining the right size of workforce and a balanced overall budget. While working with other members of the Board, the President of the Board, members of the Chicago City Council, and members of the Illinois House of Representatives, Commissioner Arroyo has secured several multi-million transportation and road resurfacing projects, and full funding for the new Belmont-Cragin Health Center, which officially opened just last week to serve the residents of the 8th District. He has also worked to fund violence prevention programs in his district and secured tax incentives for small businesses. All of this wouldn’t have been possible without his leadership skills, the solid relationships he has cultivated in the last 7 years and his steadfast commitment to improving the lives of the County residents he represents. Commissioner Arroyo was reelected in November, 2019 to his second term as Commissioner for the 8th Cook County District. With the start of the new term, he was appointed by President Tony Preckwinkle as floor leader for all meetings of the Board of Commissioners. Commissioner Arroyo was also elected by his peers as Chair of the Forest Preserve Finance Committee, in this role he oversees all expenditures, contracts and financial decisions for the Forest Preserve of Cook County.
