While aging alone comes with certain challenges, evidence also suggests that there is hope. Feeling connected with others can improve physical, emotional, and mental health. On October 12, community members gathered at Lake County JCC for the Daffodil Memorial Garden Program: Blooms for Bibas, presented by JUF’s Russian-Speaking Jewish Division, JCC Chicago, and Holocaust Community Services at CJE SeniorLife.

Teens from the JCC teen program listened to Holocaust survivor Lusya Ulasevich share her powerful story, creating a meaningful opportunity for learning, remembrance, and reflection across generations.

Together, we honored the 1.5 million children murdered in the Holocaust, as well as the Bibas children, and all children whose lives have been tragically lost since October 7, 2023. With four daffodil gardens now established, this has become an annual community tradition: gathering to plant bulbs or visit a garden in bloom while listening to a Holocaust survivor’s story. Through remembrance, education, and the planting of daffodils, we help ensure their memories live on for future generations.
