The Academy for Global Citizenship’s mission is to empower students to positively impact their community and world beyond. Rigorous academic expectations lie at the heart of achieving this mission. As an International Baccalaureate school, AGC employs an inquiry-based curriculum that challenges each learner to construct personal meaning from concept-driven units of study. Moreover, AGC teachers design lessons and activities that prepare students to be environmentally and internationally minded by examining how their choices impact their community and the world. An AGC education also extends beyond the classroom. Organic, nutritionally balance meals, daily yoga, wellness instruction and ecologically sustainable practices throughout the school encourage learners to develop healthy and sustainable lifestyles for themselves. Ultimately, the Academy for Global Citizenship engages the whole child in an enriching educational community focused on fostering academic excellence, international awareness and environmental stewardship.

Global citizens stand for unity and peace. 🕊️

This fall, our AGC students were invited to serve as flag bearers in Chicago’s 2026 International Day of Peace celebration, honoring the many cultures and traditions that make our world so vibrant and beautiful.

Thank you to Ms. Cristal, who coordinated this special opportunity for our young global citizens to lead, represent, and connect with our neighbors near and far. 🌎

🌱 350,000 fresh meals a year, grown and cooked right here on Chicago's Southwest Side.

At the Academy for Global Citizenship, our Pre-K–8 students eat meals featuring produce grown just steps from where they learn. They also help grow it, spending part of every school day outdoors and in our teaching kitchens with educators and community partners, building skills for a healthier future, one recipe at a time.

Good food fuels good learning. This Farm to School Month, we're excited to harvest even more curiosity and connection. Follow along all October to see what's growing! 🥕

The change of seasons brought some special visitors to our Chicago campus this week! 🦌

During an outdoor lesson at the Academy for Global Citizenship, our young students watched in awe as a small herd of deer wandered past, exploring the habitat our Southwest Side community has worked so hard to restore.

Moments like these are invaluable to how we learn, and they become possible when we design environments that nurture both the planet and our people. 🌎

We made our Outdoor Promise, and we're committed to keeping it. 🌿

If you're in Chicago, you're invited to the Academy for Global Citizenship's first-ever United in Nature event on Wednesday, October 7 from 4–6 p.m.!

Hosted on our regenerative six-acre campus, United in Nature is a new initiative that inspires more outdoor learning and living, every day.

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Marc G. Berman, is the world’s leading environmental neuroscientist and founder and director of the Environmental Neuroscience Laboratory at the University of Chicago. He'll share research from his new book, Nature and the Mind, on how time outside strengthens our brains and bodies. 🧠

After the keynote, connect with local organizations bringing nature-centered experiences to life across Chicagoland, including Garfield Park Conservatory, Chicago Grows Food, Wild for Change, and more.

⭐ This FREE community event is open to all ages, so be sure to RSVP here: https://forms.gle/SLuAePjjQ5iVkiCe7

Did you hear us singing in Chicago last week? 🎶

Reggie “Guitaro” Guillaume, known worldwide for his viral Sing with Me Live videos, inspired our students, parents, and staff to raise their voice while visiting the Academy for Global Citizenship on the Southwest Side!

🦋 To say thank you, our Mariposas taught him some of their favorite tunes from across the world, as well as our beloved Butterfly Song in both English and Espanol.

Gracias, Reggie, for reminding us that music is one of the easiest ways to bring joy to others—and bring out the rockstar inside all of us.

Stayed tuned for the full video of Reggie’s experience at AGC coming soon! 🎸

Being a global citizen begins with honoring our roots. 🌱

As Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, AGC is proud to be a place where Spanish and English are equally valued every day.

For many of our students and families across Southwest Chicago, it is their identity.

It’s also how AGC continues to advocate for bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural competence for all.

Thank you to everyone who celebrates our dual-language environment and, in turn, contributes to a more vibrant and just world. 🌍

AGC is thrilled to announce that our Sustainability Coordinator, Ren Driscoll, has been selected for a full-ride scholarship through USDA's NextGen Scholars program to pursue a Masters of Science in Sustainable Food Systems at Arizona State University! ⭐

In addition to building and refining AGC’s sustainability initiatives and policies, much of Ren’s work has centered on supporting students to grow, cook, and connect with food.

🥗 With this grant, Ren will have the opportunity to learn how research and community-based approaches can help create more equitable, resilient and sustainable food systems.

They are especially excited to holistically explore how food, education, agriculture, sustainability, and equity intersect within school communities and bring that knowledge back to Chicago.

Join us in congratulating Ren on this amazing new adventure and their commitment to nourishing the next generation with integrity! 👏

Hop toward it or hop away? 🦗

Curiosity looks different on everyone—and that’s okay!

Some of our AGC students lean in immediately. Others need a little more time, and maybe a friend’s hand to hold.

Both experiences are exactly right.

Together, we’ll keep exploring the natural world and encouraging curiosity, one bug at a time. 🌱

Where in the world were our Mariposas this summer? ✈️ Swipe through to take a look!

Every year, AGC's Innovation Fund gives our educators the chance to travel across the world and explore a new opportunity related to their passions, interests, and expertise.

Some call it professional development. We call it global citizenship. 🌎

AGC’s mission to reimagine education for everyone includes the resources we provide our teachers. Share this post if you believe in reimagining how we invest in our leaders, our students, and our communities!
