This October marks the first Illinois Disability History Month!

In Illinois, House Dems have made great strides to protect and expand the rights of people living with disabilities throughout our state.

We've passed the Dignity in Pay Act to ensure workers of all abilities receive minimum wages. We've improved the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Program so parents can start saving for home adaptations and other needs as soon as their child receives a disability diagnosis. Under Sami's Law, all public buildings will now include a mobile changing table within an accessible stall for children and adults with disabilities or mobility issues. And, we're ensuring safer interactions between neurodivergent drivers and law enforcement by launching our state-wide Blue Envelope Program next year.

I'm proud of the progress we've made, and I'm determined to continue fighting for equity and accessibility.

On Saturday, my office hosted our annual 🍂❤️‍🩹Fall Family Health Fair, bringing neighbors, families, and community organizations together for a day of health, wellness, and fun!

Thanks to our co-hosting offices and community partners, attendees had access to free health services and resources. The day also featured a rain barrel raffle 🌧️ and free haircuts generously provided by local business, Epic Studio Academy 💇. We’re grateful to all who joined us, helping to keep our communities healthy, connected, and prepared for the cold season ❄️ ahead!

🌎💡 The City of Chicago is inviting young people, ages 15–24, to apply for funding through the Chicago Youth Climate Action Fund. With grants of 1,000 to 5,000, young Chicagoans will have the opportunity to develop and lead projects that benefit the environment and their communities.

Projects could include environmental justice advocacy, community gardens, tree planting, recycling and composting, food-waste reduction, clean-energy education, sustainable transportation, and other creative climate solutions.
