Happy to all who celebrate, which should be everyone, because why shouldn't you have some flowers to water?

Well, whether you have flowers or not, you can still use the day to get out and see some flowers, whether at the park or the Conservatory.

Happy ! This week's wildflower is the Golden Alexander! These can be seen at the North Pond Nature Sanctuary!
✏️ Latin: Zizia aurea

🥕 This beautiful wildflower is a part of the carrot family, Apiaceae.
🦋 It is an important flower for Black Swallowtail caterpillars and butterflies, who feed on it during all stages of their lives.
♥️ During the spring, they have green leaves, but during the fall, they turn a dark red!

Before Memorial Day was created in 1971, it was Decoration Day. Decoration Day was established in 1878 to honor fallen Civil War soldiers by decorating their graves with flags and flowers. Late May was chosen to ensure there would be enough flowers. Today, Memorial Day honors all fallen soldiers. While the name has changed, flowers are still a lovely way to honor those we have lost.

Happy World Turtle Day! Use today as a great excuse to go see turtles at North Pond or the Alfred Caldwell Lily Pool! World Turtle Day is dedicated to increasing awareness of turtles and tortoises, threats to their habitat, and the illegal turtle trade.

Fun Fact about turtles:
These creatures date back to the time of the dinosaurs, over 200 million years ago!
