Earlier this week, Kuya J’s wife met with consulate officials about their failure to provide a wellness check or release Assistance to Nationals Funds, and she was met with dismissal and no concrete promises. Just like Tita Rebecca and other cases nationally like Kuya Greggie and Kuya Rodel, the Consulate has consistently failed to provide meaningful support in spite of having millions allocated. SHAME ON THE PHILIPPINE CONSULATE! ICE OUT NOW!

JUSTICE FOR TITA REBECCA!

This International Women’s Day, CCHRP met to plan our week of action for Tita Rebecca and against Marcos Jr.’s visit to NYC to speak on the issue of women at the UN. Members of Tanggol Migrante Chicago flew to NYC to confront and expose Marcos and the Ph governement’s shameful neglect of Filipino women like Tita Rebecca, and their blatant hypocrisy for pretending to advocate for women while being complicit in the abuse of Filipino women by ICE, and by the U.S. military in the Philippines. Join us in commemorating the 1 year anniversary of Tita Rebecca’s detention on Sat Mar 14th to continue the fight for Tita Rebecca, to get accountability from the Ph Consulate, and to demand ICE out of our communities!

‼️URGENT‼️ SURFACE CHANTAL ANICOCHE! DEFEND MINDORO!

Chantal Anicoche, a Filipino‑American community organizer, was immersing with farmers and Indigenous Mangyan in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. During the AFP’s bombings on January 1, she was separated from her group and remains missing.

On January 1, the Armed Forces of the Philippines launched a major attack on Barangay Cabacao in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. In a clear violation of international humanitarian law, four attack helicopters dropped at least twelve bombs, followed by hours of aerial strafing, terrorizing the peasant and Indigenous Mangyan communities.

The AFP’s attacks killed 3 Mangyan children, injured their mother, and forcibly displaced 188 families from the area. It also led to the death of at least 2 student researchers who had been integrating with the Mangyan community to more deeply understand their conditions. One of these youth was Jerlyn Rose Doydora, a leader with Kabataan Partylist, who died from an illness while trying to escape from the relentless bombing in the area.

Chantal Anicoche is a 25‑year‑old Fil‑Am community leader and University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) graduate who was deeply involved in Filipino student organizing and advocacy. Through the Filipino‑American Student Association (FASA), she connected with other Filipinos around shared identity and the issues facing Filipino communities in the U.S. and the Philippines. Her commitment to environmental, farmers’, and Indigenous peoples’ struggles was shaped by her family’s own experiences of economic hardship.

Driven by her commitment to Indigenous and environmental issues, Chantal traveled to the Philippines to learn directly from the Mangyan community amid worsening economic hardship and militarization. She was present in Abra de Ilog during the AFP’s January 1 attack and has been missing ever since. There is an urgent demand for her immediate surfacing, as her whereabouts and condition are being blocked from public view.

URGENT UPDATE ON TITA REBECCA! Due to our movements sustained pressure, Tita Rebecca’s will be deported to the Philippines on Jan 2nd after 9 months of detention and 3 months of inaction following her removal order. While her release from detention is welcomed, we highlight the Philippine Consulate’s failure to fulfill their promise to provide a medical examination prior to her flight. This holiday season, Tanggol Migrante Movement will celebrate the spirit of giving and family by relentlessly advocating for Tita Rebecca, and by fighting for the dignity and rights of all migrants and families. Join us in calling the Chicago consulate everyday from Dec 26-Jan 2nd to pressure the Philippines Consulate to do their job, and hold them accountable to their neglect and corruption!
