TODAY! 🚨49th Ward, Northside Community Resources, and Uptown People’s Law Center are hosting a Tenants Rights Training on Saturday, October 10 at Kilmer International Academy on 6700 N. Last Friday, my staff toured Trilogy’s Rogers Park location at 1400 W. Greenleaf. Heather (Chief of Staff) and Gabby (Manager of Constituent Services and Outreach) learned about their Living Room which is under construction and will open early next year! The Living Room will create a safe space for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis who need in-person support to deescalate and remain safe. Heather and Gabby met with staff, nurses, and their mobile crisis team. Thank you for having us to learn more about the mental health work that you do! City Colleges of Chicago, the ask is simple: Listen to your 1,500 faculty members and staff who are asking for fairer wages, benefits, academic freedom, and control over AI in the classroom.

Cook County College Teachers Union Local 1600 voted to go on strike on October 19th with support from 96% of its voting members. I was proud to join CCCTU educators and staff last week to make their demands clear.

Today, we are bringing Chicago’s FIRST Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon (PHB) to Ridge/Hollywood/Wayne in Edgewater to make it easier for folks to safely cross Ridge. 🚨

After a decade in the making - including passing a state law, appropriating $200,00 in state funds, and tireless community mobilization - a brand-new PHB will bring immediate traffic improvements to Ridge. PHBs are proven to improve safety with studies showing a 55% reduction in pedestrian crashes and 29% reduction in total crashes. With today’s groundbreaking, construction begins now, and the project is set to be completed in early 2027.🚶🏿

It was a sincere honor to accept the Inspiring Hope Award from Mercy Housing Lakefront this past Wednesday. Public housing has been a part of my entire life, from growing up in scattered-site housing in Lincoln Square to funding affordable housing as your State Senator.

The work continues to improve and expand afforable housing across Illinois, and to make sure that everyone lives in a community with good schools, grocery stores, outdoor space, and access to public transit just like my family had when we first moved to Lincoln Square. Thank you to Mercy Housing Lakefront for the recognition, and I look forward to the work ahead!

Last week I hosted a Mobile Town Hall at ENJOY in Andersonville. Thank you to our wonderful hosts and everyone who attended! We had robust conversations about housing, data centers and AI, and small business needs and support.
