Healthy eating can still be comforting, flavorful, and filling.
At this month's Nourish Chicago cooking demonstration, seniors learned how simple ingredients like spinach can add nutrients, color, and flavor to everyday meals like pasta.
Cooking demonstrations help turn fresh pantry produce into approachable recipes seniors can confidently recreate at home while learning practical nutrition tips along the way.
Food is medicine, but it is also community, creativity, and joy.

Meals on Wheels Chicago
Working to eliminate hunger and isolation for Chicago’s seniors and individuals with disabilities.
Meals on Wheels Chicago envisions a community in which all basic needs are met and barriers to achieving independence are eliminated. We achieve this by raising both funds and awareness to support home meal delivery to senior citizens and people with disabilities who are in need.
Small nutrition changes can make a big impact.
During this month's Nourish Chicago cooking and wellness programming, we talked about a simple tip seniors can use at home: adding berries to breakfast to help support balanced energy and avoid sugar spikes throughout the day.
Healthy eating does not have to be complicated. Through our pantry and cooking demonstrations, we work to make nutrition approachable, practical, and empowering for Chicago seniors.
Food is medicine, and knowledge is part of that too.

Healthy food access also means giving seniors the confidence to cook, learn, and try something new.
At our Nourish Chicago cooking demonstrations, participants do more than watch a recipe come together. They ask questions, share stories, learn knife skills, and build confidence in the kitchen using fresh produce distributed through the pantry.
These moments turn healthy food into something approachable, social, and empowering.
This week, we are highlighting the Nourish Chicago Pantry and the many ways food brings community together across Chicago.

This week, we are highlighting the Nourish Chicago Pantry, our cooking demonstrations, and the seniors who help make this community so special.
Today starts with a conversation about beets.
At Meals on Wheels Chicago, healthy food access is about more than nutrition. It is about dignity, community, and creating spaces where seniors feel seen, heard, and valued.
Throughout the week, we will continue sharing stories from the pantry and the impact these programs have across Chicago.

Mother’s Day is a time to celebrate the people who cared for us, showed up for us, and made us feel loved.
For many of the seniors we serve, those roles did not end when their kids grew up. They are still mothers, still caregivers at heart. But too often, they are navigating aging, isolation, and tight budgets on their own.
At Meals on Wheels Chicago, we have the privilege of showing up for them. A meal at the door. A quick check-in. A reminder that someone is thinking about them.
This Mother’s Day, you can be part of that care. Your donation helps us provide meals, pantry access, and essential support so seniors can live with dignity and independence.
It is a simple way to honor the mothers in your life while caring for those who may not have someone to celebrate them.
