Pride Month is a celebration of authenticity, community, and resilience. While the Trump administration continues to spread hatred and attack LGBTQI+ rights, I will continue to fight back and defend the right of every person to live authentically and openly.

I am leading a coalition of local elected officials in calling on the Illinois EPA to conduct a transparent and comprehensive public assessment of the Koppers Inc. fire that happened in Cicero last week.

Our communities deserve clear answers about potential environmental and public health impacts, ongoing monitoring efforts, and the steps being taken to protect residents and ensure accountability.

Estoy encabezando una coalición de funcionarios electos locales para solicitar a la Agencia de Protección Ambiental de Illinois (EPA de Illinois) que realice una evaluación pública transparente y exhaustiva del incendio ocurrido la semana pasada en las instalaciones de Koppers Inc. en Cicero.

Nuestras comunidades merecen respuestas claras sobre los posibles impactos ambientales y en la salud pública, los esfuerzos continuos de monitoreo y las medidas que se están tomando para proteger a los residentes y garantizar la rendición de cuentas.

To close AANHPI Heritage Month, I’m highlighting Robin Choi, a veteran chef with over 17 years of experience. In early 2016, Robin Choi took over Stella’s Batting Cages and Restaurant and revitalized the establishment by blending its traditional batting-cage atmosphere with a high-end, creative culinary approach. Before owning Stella’s, Robin Choi specialized in high-end sushi for nearly two decades, serving as head chef in Arizona and Chicago, and later working at top-tier Chicago restaurants.

I was honored to be the keynote speaker at the John Spry Community School’s 8th grade graduation. These students are the future of our communities! Congrats to the class of 2026! Wishing everyone the best of luck in the next chapter of your lives.

This morning I toured .suburban.bus West Division’s bus garage with Director Melinda Metzger, and got to meet some of the drivers and other employees that help move people every day. I’m proud to have brought more than $1 million in Community Project Funding to improve traffic signals, bus reliability, travel times and access to public transportation for western Cook County and DuPage County suburbs.

Esta mañana recorrí el garage de autobuses de la División Oeste de PACE con la directora Melinda Metzger, y tuve la oportunidad de conocer a algunos de los conductores y otros empleados que ayudan a transportar a las personas cada día. Me enorgullece haber gestionado más de un millón de dólares en Fondos para Proyectos Comunitarios destinados a mejorar los semáforos, la fiabilidad del servicio de autobuses, los tiempos de viaje y el acceso al transporte público en los suburbios del oeste del condado de Cook y del condado de DuPage.

I joined my colleague to visit .hernandezms and talk to the students. It’s not surprising that many of them had questions about immigration. The impact of the cruel ICE operatives has left students in our districts anxious and worried. However, their spirit isn't broken, and we will keep fighting for these children and their families.

Mi colega Rep. Delia Ramirz y yo visitamos la Escuela Secundaria Hernandez y hablamos con los estudiantes. No me sorprende que muchos de ellos tuvieran preguntas sobre inmigración. Los crueles operativos de ICE han dejado a los estudiantes de nuestros distritos ansiosos y preocupados. Sin embargo, su espíritu no está quebrantado, y seguiremos luchando por estos niños y sus familias.

This AANHPI Heritage Month, I’m proud to recognize Thai Deng, owner and executive chef of HaiSous Vietnamese Kitchen, a modern Vietnamese restaurant in Pilsen. Thai Deng is a 2026 James Beard Award winner for Best Chef and also owns Cà Phê Dá and Dang Good Wings, a joint Vietnamese café and street food restaurant.
