Today, is the 9th Anniversary my special Friend, Mentor, Leader, Teacher, and Father left Us, to be in a better place. You are so Missed. And believe me, we are doing the Best we can to continue on your legacy. And as you would say to all, “God Bless You”

Today, my staff and I celebrated the birthday of Lois Planthaber. The office actually received pizza and a chocolate cake, Lois’ favorite, sent by her daughters.
We sang Happy Birthday to Lois, with a heavy heart. We also received some good news that a Team was created by her daughters, for the upcoming March 5th-Chicago Special Olympics Polar Plunge. Lois, you will never be forgotten.

Today was the most difficult day as Alderman of the 30th Ward. We lost the most caring, and intelligent human being you could ever meet. This person was there for me seven days a week. She was the keeper of the Aldermanic Budget, who made decisions to share beatification projects. She was there for me. She designed and scripted each year, “The State of the Ward Address”.

For twelve consecutive years she planned the fundraising activity for the “RIDE for AIDS”, 200 mile trek. She was the staffer who picked me up each year for the “Polar Plunge” event. And during the Budget Hearings, she would create a binder for each City Department. And yet, she still answered the phones, to provide information and assistance to anyone who called.

She was the staffer who originated all my memos, before I approved and signed. She spoiled me, she would disagree with me. But at the end of the day, I was content.

And now, as I plan for my retirement, I didn’t make it in time to see her before she closed her eyes for the final moment. Today was a very sad day in my career. One that I will never forget. But time will heal, and we must continue to move forward. Lois, you definitely made me a better person. We will soon meet again, as you look down on us. I thank God for the knowledge and wisdom you shared with our co-workers.

Amen 😞
