Real Estate Coordinator Jennifer Rossiter Moreno and Deputy General Counsel Gabriela Nicolau represented IDFPR’s Division of Real Estate at the Illinois Realtors® 109th Inaugural Gala in Lombard on September 29.

This year’s gala also served as a benefit for the Illinois Real Estate Educational Foundation (REEF), which provides scholarships to students pursuing careers in real estate and related fields.

A highlight of the evening was the installation of the 2027 Illinois REALTORS® President Debbie Prodehl and the Board of Directors. DRE was pleased to join members of the Real Estate Administration and Disciplinary Board and other industry colleagues for this special occasion.

“Through our continued collaboration with state and federal regulatory partners, IDFPR is working to ensure innovation in financial services does not come at the expense of consumer safety,” said IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto, Jr.

IDFPR and 33 other state financial regulatory agencies have reached a $2.5 million settlement with Coinme Inc., a Seattle-based cryptocurrency money transmitter and kiosk operator, for violations of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and anti-money laundering (AML) laws that safeguard the financial system from illicit use.

“Ensuring that money transmitters comply with financial laws, like the Bank Secrecy Act, is vital to protecting both the financial system and Illinois consumers,” said IDFPR Director of Financial Institutions Francisco Menchaca. “This settlement reinforces that those obligations apply across the financial services landscape, regardless of the technology or business model involved.”

“Fiscal Year 2026 was an important year for Illinois’ cannabis program, and the changes we have been implementing from SB 3222 continue to strengthen the regulatory framework and build on the progress we have made since adult-use cannabis was first legalized,” said IDFPR Secretary Mario Treto Jr.

IDFPR and the Cannabis Regulation Oversight Office (CROO) recently released the State of Illinois’ 2026 Annual Cannabis Report, providing a comprehensive look at the work of state agencies responsible for cannabis licensing, regulation, public health, public safety, economic development and reinvestment during FY26.

“As our regulatory structure and industry both mature, we saw record number of sales last year, with the best prices yet for Illinois consumers,” said Erin Johnson, Cannabis Regulation Oversight Officer.

This week, IDFPR Medical Licensing Board Chair Dr. Jim Mackinzie and Chief Medical Coordinator Dr. Shami Goyal represented the Department at NBOME Visitation Day.

The National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) plays an important role in helping ensure osteopathic physicians are prepared to safely practice medicine. Its foundational mission is public protection and ensuring graduating osteopathic medical students and practicing physicians demonstrate the knowledge, clinical skills and professional competencies necessary to provide safe, quality care.
