CDOT oversees the public way--streets, sidewalks, bridges, alleys and other places you walk on, drive on, or ride a bike on.

We handle design, construction, maintenance and management of streets, sidewalks, alleys, bridges, bike and pedestrian facilities, transit stations, streetlights, traffic signals, signs and pavement markings, streetscapes and sustainable design. We work to make sure the public way functions safely and efficiently.

Check out the transformed S. Indiana Ave, 31st–55th.

This street regularly saw unsafe speeding, with some drivers exceeding 70 MPH. Now, traffic safety improvements have led to safer speeds, shorter crossings, and a more comfortable corridor for all users.

As Chicago continues to invest in its bikeway network to improve safe and convenient access to destinations like schools, parks, and local businesses, CDOT has published a series of case studies looking at economic trends before and after bike lane installation. 🚲

Building on research from other cities, the findings show most economic indicators were either positive or neutral, with more people biking and significant safety improvements.
