This week/the last 24 hours has been sheer chaos, but Illinois Senator Tammy Duckworth is not mincing words about what the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court would mean for the full spectrum of reproductive decisions people make, including IVF. In sum, Vote! Vote! Vote!!

A Senator Wrote An Impassioned Letter To Her Colleagues About Her IVF Treatment And Trump’s Supreme Court Nominee The letter is in response to reports that Judge Amy Coney Barrett publicly supported an organization that believes in vitro fertilization should be criminalized.

It. Has. Been. A. Minute. This week has been filled with heavy news that has left many of us feeling overwhelmed in the face of injustice and grieving. In these moments, it is important to reframe and remember the importance of voting to support candidates who want to support choice and to apply funds where they are most useful.

It is also important to remember that people are doing some powerful work in the area. Some examples: the Chicago Abortion Fund has gained national recognition for a billboard campaign, reminding people that abortion is covered by Medicaid. Carafem, an independent clinic with a location in the Chicago area, is offering abortion pills by mail after a video consult.

Your vote keeps these projects possible. We can do this.

I am sure many of you have heard the news that in order to still be able to provide abortion care, Planned Parenthood will be withdrawing from the Title X program. That federal funding is now possible going to be grabbed by a crisis pregnancy org. THIS IS AN URGENT CALL TO ACTION! "With hospitals under pressure to gain market share, control health care costs and increase profitability, many financially strong Catholic chains have bulked up—acquiring both faith-based and secular facilities along the way. Women of color in the county have even fewer options: 85 percent of black and Hispanic women were enrolled in one of the five plans with a heavily Catholic network, compared with 75 percent of white women, the study finds."

This spring marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of Jane, a Chicago underground network run by women for women, providing abortion services, regardless of ability to pay, from 1969-1973.
