James Michael McGing for Appellate Court

adjudicating cases involving gang, gun and drug activity, demolitions and public nuisance. A former Assistant Cook County State's Attorney, Judge McGing has worked side-by-side with top law enforcement leaders throughout his career including the Cook County State's Attorney's Office, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, and the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police. As Counsel to the Sheriff, he directed legislative matters at every level of government ranging from the United States Congress to the Illinois General Assembly and the Cook County Board of Commissioners. Throughout his career, McGing has continued to pursue specialized training in challenging law enforcement issues. A graduate of the FBI National Academy, Quantico, Virginia, he served as President and executive board member of the local chapter of FBI National Academy Associates, the world's most distinguished law enforcement leadership network. Judge McGing's recognized expertise is reflected in his past selection as a board member of the U.S. Department of Justice Regional Computer Forensic Lab and as a member of the U.S. Judge McGing also served as Co-Chair of the Women's Justice Program. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Chicago Bar Association’s First Municipal Committee. A dedicated father and long-time resident of Chicago's northwest side, McGing enjoys spending time with his wife and three teenage sons. He has been an active member of the local community, having serving as board member of the Trinity Irish Dance Company and the Northern Express Hockey Program. Judge McGing is a proud graduate of Chicago's Saint Patrick High School and DePaul University. He was admitted to law practice before the Illinois Supreme Court in 1986 after receiving his Juris Doctorate degree from the DePaul University College of Law.
