When Marangelis Uben started college, she envisioned a future in medicine. But as her interests evolved, she took a chance on a different path, one that eventually led her to a career in technology.

Now a software engineer at Vanguard, Marangelis reflects on her journey as a first-generation Afro-Latina, including the financial challenges she faced while pursuing her education and the scholarship support that helped her earn her master's degree in data science.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, we're proud to highlight Marangelis's experience and the importance of continuing to recognize and uplift Hispanic and Latina voices in STEM throughout the year.

Every girl deserves the freedom to learn, make her own choices and pursue a future she defines for herself.

On International Day of the Girl Child, we recognize the importance of protecting girls' rights and addressing the inequalities that continue to limit their opportunities around the world.

At SWE, we believe that includes ensuring girls have access to STEM education and the support to pursue their interests without barriers or limitations.

Today, we celebrate girls as leaders and changemakers while reaffirming our commitment to creating more opportunities for them to thrive.

After becoming a vice president of engineering twice, Ali Forsyth, Ph.D., began wondering what was next for her career. Her answer ultimately led her to entrepreneurship and co-founding Alloy Enterprises.

Now vice president and general manager of Stack Forging thermal solutions at Johnson Controls, Ali joins FY27 SWE President Kerrie Greenfelder to reflect on what it took to make that leap, the lessons she learned while building her company and the role sponsorship played in opening new doors throughout her career.

Ali also shares a preview of her upcoming WE26 keynote fireside chat in Boston this November.
