Unfortunately, through anglicisation, a lot of parishes, townslands and counties in Ireland have lost their true meaning. The original Irish names will tell you far more of the history from that area. Townslands are often named after a church, landlord, ring-fort, well, hill, forest etc. Whereas (more often than not), the current day anglicised names will tell you basically nothing. I would highly recommend learning the place names of Ireland in the Irish language. Those are the names with the meaning behind them 🇮🇪 #irishhistory #ireland
