The 33rd District Office was proud to be represented recently at the Chase Literacy Center’s 2nd Annual Family Literacy Open House in South Shore.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Kimberly Chase, Founder and Director of the Chase Literacy Center, for the opportunity to participate in this meaningful event and support the advancement of literacy in our community.

As a community we need to stress to our children the importance of education (𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘦 𝘥𝘦𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴, 𝘮𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘪-𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘺). Today still in 2026 too many children are illiterate and too many young adults lack education, particularly in the black community.

School teachers do the lion share but they can NOT do it all, we need programs like this to help parents with strategies and stand in the gap when parents are incapable. Investing in literacy initiatives strengthens families, empowers our youth, and helps build a stronger community.

The 33rd District office crew was proud to volunteer and support the Chicago Vocational High School Alumni 5K Torch Trail event this weekend.

The 5K Torch Trail brings together alumni, students, families, staff, and community supporters to raise funds that support CVS and its athletic programs.

Thank you to Harold Williams, CVS Alumni Association President and Crystal Dishmon, Chairperson for 5k Torch Trail for inviting the 33rd District office to support.

The arts and culture sector is a vital economic engine, a cornerstone of community identity, and an essential part of public policy.

As President of the National Conference of State Legislatures Foundation, it was a pleasure to meet with national leaders from Americans for the Arts to discuss key priorities and legislative avenues to sustain and elevate arts and culture nationwide. Special thanks to Alyssa Fisher (Chief Government Affairs Officer), Jay Dick (Senior Director of Advocacy and Partnerships), and Toosher Swain (Senior Director of Public Policy) for their dedication and insightful perspectives.

A heartfelt thank you to our very own Diana Noel, Chief Development Officer of the NCSL Foundation, for bringing us together and continuing to drive impactful partnerships.

In this new chapter leading the Foundation, I look forward to strengthening these vital partnerships and championing the creative economies that help our communities thrive.

Sports officials and coaches of Chicago Public Schools are some of the most supportive, caring and dedicated community servants of Chicago. They mentor and support our kids beyond their teams, and as a sports official myself I see it up close.

Devon Morales, Sr. the cousin of Chicago Mayor's Office and Executive Director of the Office of Sports Administration for CPS believes he can abuse, intimidate and extort these individuals. Recently, Mr. Morales intentionally held up payment for officials/coaches and has a pattern of abusive behavior.

Many of the officials and coaches are unable to speak up because of concern for retaliation. I am calling for CPS and the Mayor to immediately fire Mr. Morales for his recent actions and conduct an investigation to substantiate other abuse allegations.

The Mayor can place his cousin in another $300,000 position because the coaches and officials of Chicago just want to work and enjoy their advocation.

Officials who lovingly and passionately give their services to CPS are being intimidated and bullied through refusal of pay and it’s not right. The educational experience for our children extend to sports and the mostly black officials are teachers and caretakers of our children.

CPS Sports Administration is a failure and changes need to made.

More than 250 high school referees that regularly work CPS games are on strike.

What an incredible week in Washington, D.C. at the 𝟓𝟓𝐭𝐡 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation

I had the honor of speaking on a panel with State Representative Lashawn Ford and others hosted by Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago focused on advancing Bipartisan Solutions to America's Housing Crisis. A huge thank you to Danielle Stanley, NHS Associate Director of Public Policy, for the invitation to participate, and to Ashahed Triche, NHS Marketing and Communications Director, for brilliantly moderating the discussion.

It was also a privilege to celebrate my brother and friend, Congressman Jonathan Jackson, at a reception honoring his continued leadership in D.C.

Out of the many dynamic sessions throughout the week, another standout moment was supporting Chicago State University President Z Scott during her discussion on mental health at Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs), hosted by Congresswoman Robin Kelly.

I had the honor of joining neighbors, families, and leaders today to celebrate the vibrant South Chicago Mexican Independence Day Parade.

It was wonderful walking the route alongside Alderman Peter Chico and connecting with so many residents along the way. Honoring heritage, culture, and community in the heart of South Chicago! 🇲🇽
