250 years of America and Illinois has been at the heart of every defining moment!

Today, I was proud to participate in the American Discovery 250 Relay, a historic celebration marking 250 years of the United States of America. Illinois became a state in 1818, 42 years after the founding of our nation. But from the very beginning, the Land of Lincoln has been more than just a place on a map. It has been a crossroads and a catalyst shaped by the millions of people who immigrated here, sought refuge here, and built something extraordinary here.

From Abraham Lincoln's story to the birth of the labor movement and the civil rights movement, the history of Illinois is the history of people who refused to give up on the promise of America.

As we passed the baton to our friends in Indiana today, we did so with pride in our people, in our state, and in our shared history. And as we reflect on 250 years, we also recognize that our best chapters are still ahead. As Illinoisans, we will write them together.

October is ADHD Awareness Month!

This month, we recognize the millions of children, teens, and adults living with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It is an opportunity to increase understanding, challenge misconceptions, and remind one another that ADHD does not define a person’s potential.

People with ADHD may experience challenges with focus, attention, and self-regulation, but they also bring unique perspectives, creativity, passion, and strengths to our families, schools, workplaces, and communities. As we recognize ADHD Awareness Month, let’s commit to building a more understanding and inclusive society—one where individuals with ADHD have access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.

Awareness leads to acceptance. Understanding leads to inclusion.
And support opens doors to opportunity.

Let’s continue to support, include, and empower people with ADHD—not just in October, but every day.

Our small businesses deserve to operate without fear and we are fighting back!

The businesses in our community have shown incredible resilience. They are the backbone of our neighborhoods, our corridors, and our economy. That is what makes the recent string of organized criminal activity targeting our small businesses so deeply disturbing and so deeply personal.

No one who is simply opening up shop for the day should have to fear being vandalized . No business owner who has poured their time, energy, passion, and livelihood into building something should ever fear watching it be devastated by criminals.

I am grateful to the Chatham Business Association for their leadership and crucial support. And to Melinda Kelly and the entire 75th Street business community thank you for bringing us together to keep our community safer and stronger.

Working together, we will make our streets, our neighborhoods, and our business districts safer for everyone.
