Last month, CCLBA Executive Director Jessica Caffrey spoke at the Chicago Community Builders Collective’s (CCBC) Construction Resource Fair.

Jessica highlighted how CCLBA’s inventory of vacant and distressed properties can help small developers grow their businesses, create jobs for local tradespeople, support homeownership, and bring vacant properties back into productive use.

Our Executive Director, Jessica Caffrey, joined the South Side Builders Association for its September Lunch Seminar for a conversation on community development, property revitalization, and the work happening across Chicago’s South Side.

Jessica’s presentation focused on the opportunities available through the Cook County Land Bank Authority, highlighting how we help transform vacant and underutilized properties into assets that strengthen communities. She also spotlighted our collaboration with the City of Chicago as key tools driving that work forward.

The Cook County Land Bank Authority is hiring for:

💼 Lead Program Manager, apply by 10/8
➡️ Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher and
➡️ Five (5) years of program management, project management, or directly related experience is required or
➡️ An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
➡️ Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance is required.

🌱The results are in! Meet the winners of Blocks In Bloom, our community garden competition!

🥇 1st Place: Mama Moore Community Garden by the Mama Moore Regeneration Center

The lot at the 7900 block of S. Dobson was transformed into a community garden honoring Mama Moore's legacy of food justice and healing. Built and sustained by Knowledge Theodore, Endiya Griffin, One Summer Chicago youth gardeners, and the Sweetwater Foundation, the garden now feeds neighbors and brings pride to the block.

🥈 2nd Place: Serenity Garden by Community Youth Development Institute

The lot at the 7800 block of S. Union was turned into a food garden and peaceful gathering space for local students to grow vegetables and learn about healthy living, with support from the U.S. Department of Labor’s YouthBuild program.

🎉 Thank you to our partners at MWRD of Greater Chicago and at Lowe’s, both winners will receive rain barrels and gardening kits, to keep their gardens thriving all season long, and our 1st place winner takes home a $500 award!
