The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) is a trade association serving companies that sell, distribute, and service fire equipment. Nearly all of our members sell and service portable fire extinguishers in addition to a full range of fire protection services including the installation and/or maintenance of pre-engineered kitchen systems, industrial systems, fire alarms, security systems, sprinklers, fire hose and standpipes, and emergency and exit lighting. You can find NAFED members working in commercial, industrial, and residential settings making buildings safe and giving individuals the tools they need to fight early-stage fires.

IS YOUR FIRE ALARM CONTROL UNIT MOUNTED AT THE CORRECT HEIGHT?

Too high? Too low? NFPA 72 has specific requirements!
According to NFPA 72, visible indicators, displays, switches, and controls on fire alarm control equipment must be positioned within an accessible range:
📏 Minimum: 15 inches above the finished floor
📏 Maximum: 6 feet above the finished floor

Proper mounting helps ensure that responding personnel can quickly view and operate the fire alarm control unit when every second counts.

How To Perform A Monthly Portable Fire Extinguisher Inspection

A quick monthly visual inspection can help identify problems before an emergency happens!
✅ Is it in its designated location and easy to access?
✅ Is the pressure gauge in the proper range?
✅ Are the pin and tamper seal intact?
✅ Are there signs of damage or obstruction?
✅ Is the inspection properly documented?
🎥 The Fire Equipment Manufacturers' Association walks you through the essential steps of a monthly portable fire extinguisher inspection.

Remember: Monthly visual inspections don't replace professional annual maintenance. Contact a qualified fire extinguisher service provider for maintenance, repairs, or replacement.

⚠️ THERMAL RUNAWAY: FIRE ISN’T THE ONLY DANGER. 🔋🔥

Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere—in e-bikes, e-scooters, cell phones, laptops, tablets, power tools, portable chargers, cordless vacuums, and other rechargeable devices.

When a lithium-ion battery fails and enters thermal runaway, conditions can deteriorate rapidly. The danger isn't limited to flames. A battery failure can release toxic gases and smoke, and a resulting fire can produce dangerous carbon monoxide.

🚨 If a lithium-ion device begins smoking, hissing, popping, swelling, overheating, or catches fire, don't stay inside trying to fight the fire or save the device.

GET OUT. STAY OUT. CALL 911.

Whether it's an e-bike or something small enough to fit in your hand, take lithium-ion battery warning signs seriously.

🔋 Devices can be replaced. You can't.
