Following their Pre-Service Inspection, our Sergeants officially marked the next step in their careers at Friday’s promotion ceremony.

Their professionalism, discipline and readiness to lead were on full display, qualities that will continue to shape the future of this Department.

Leadership starts with preparation.

Our Pre-Service Sergeants demonstrated the discipline and professionalism required of those stepping into supervisory roles.

Today we welcomed some very special guests from 𝐓𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 🐾

These future therapy dogs spent the day throughout the academy, giving recruits and staff a moment to reset, recharge, and connect.

Two of these dogs will soon join the Chicago Police Department as therapy dogs, continuing their journey of service in a new way.

Recruits are introduced to stress management early in their training through 𝐘𝐨𝐠𝐚 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬.

This curriculum focuses on building mental and physical resilience, improving performance, and providing practical tools to manage stress on and off the job.

Officer Solis led recruits through foundational techniques, reinforcing the importance of wellness as part of effective policing.

This past Friday, recruits from the Academy had the opportunity to join the 𝐔.𝐒. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 and other law enforcement partners for a memorial run through the city.

The event honored the service and sacrifice of fallen officers and highlighted the strong partnerships that connect agencies committed to protecting and serving our communities.

Last week, assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) visited the Chicago Police Department Training and Support Group at the Academy.

During their visit, assessors reviewed four key areas of training: the Annual Needs Assessment, Instructor Academy, Active Threat and Incident Response, and Crowd Management.

CALEA accreditation is widely recognized as the gold standard in public safety, highlighting agencies that meet rigorous professional standards in policy, training, and accountability. The Chicago Police Department previously received accreditation in 2020 and 2022; however, this visit marked the first in-person assessment at the Academy due to COVID-19 restrictions during prior reviews.

The assessment reflects the Department’s continued commitment to professional standards and providing high-quality training for the officers who serve the City of Chicago.

This past Friday, 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝟐𝟓-𝟏𝟎𝟑 received their stars during the Star Ceremony held at Chicago Police Headquarters.

Representing agencies from across the region, these officers trained side-by-side at the Chicago Police Academy developing the skills, discipline, and leadership needed to serve their communities with honor and professionalism.

Receiving their ballistic vests marks another step forward in a recruit's journey. Worn daily under their uniform throughout the Academy, it becomes part of the routine and a reminder of the commitment they're preparing to uphold on the streets.

Friday Flag is more than a ceremony. It is a promise.

A promise that we will speak their names.
A promise that we will remember their service.
A promise that their sacrifice will always be honored.

Last week, during our weekly Friday Flag ceremony, we honored fallen officer Detective Allan Reddins, Star #442, a five-year veteran of the Oak Park Police Department, joined by his family and fellow officers. In unity and respect, we stood together to ensure his legacy lives on.

Foundations are being built, standards are being set, and the work has already begun. This is where discipline meets purpose.
