Happy Pride Month! Yesterday, I had the honor of hosting a Pride Flag Raising at the Logan Square monument alongside . Thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to join us and celebrate the start of LGBTQIA+ Pride month.

¡Feliz Mes del Orgullo! Ayer tuve el honor de organizar una ceremonia de izamiento de la bandera del Orgullo en el monumento de Logan Square junto con el Concejal Anthony Quezada. Gracias a todos los que se tomaron un tiempo de su día para acompañarnos y celebrar el inicio del Mes del Orgullo LGBTQIA+.

Earlier this week, my staff attended the Fireside Chat. We were happy to learn about the findings of their recently published Just Housing Amendment Impact Assessment. This report included insights from 154 surveyed individuals who have arrest or conviction records and have searched for housing in the past five years.

Since its passing in 2019, the Just Housing Amendment has worked to ensure equitable housing access by prohibiting housing discrimination against individuals on the basis of arrest or conviction histories older than three years. Thank you to Dr. Laura Nussbaum-Barberena and Wendell Robinson for their work on this report and for leading the discussion portion of the event.

Esta semana, mi equipo asistió a una reunión informal organizada por la Comisión de Derechos Humanos del Condado de Cook. Nos alegró conocer los resultados de su Evaluación del impacto de la Enmienda sobre Vivienda Justa, publicada recientemente. Este informe incluyó las opiniones de 154 personas que tienen antecedentes de arrestos o condenas y que han buscado vivienda en los últimos cinco años.

Desde su aprobación en 2019, la Enmienda de Vivienda Justa ha trabajado para garantizar el acceso equitativo a la vivienda al prohibir la discriminación de vivienda contra personas por antecedentes de arrestos o condenas de más de tres años de antigüedad. Gracias a la Dra. Laura Nussbaum-Barberena y a Wendell Robinson por su trabajo en este informe y por moderar la sesión de preguntas y respuestas del evento.

Last Friday, I gathered with local community partners and fellow elected officials in Humboldt Park for the unveiling of 8 new Narcan Newsstands. I am grateful to and for their advocacy and dedication to expanding the access to this life-saving and overdose prevention medication.

El viernes pasado, me reuní con socios de la comunidad local y otros funcionarios electos en Humboldt Park para la inauguración de ocho nuevos quioscos de Narcan. Le agradezco a la Concejal Jessie Fuentes y la Concejal Rossana Rodriguez por su apoyo y dedicación para ampliar el acceso a este medicamento que salva vidas y previene las sobredosis.

This weekend I joined for their annual Walk for Peace and Cook Out. We were accompanied by and several other community organizations as we gathered in solidarity and kicked off the Summer season. Thank you to everyone who came out and celebrated with us.

Este fin de semana participé en la Caminata por la Paz que organiza anualmente la Alianza de Organizaciones de Servicios Locales (ALSO). Nos acompaño la Concejal Jessie Fuentes y varias otras organizaciones comunitarias en este encuentro con el que dimos inicio a la temporada de verano. Gracias a todos los que vinieron a celebrar con nosotros.

Apply for the micro-grant program! This micro-grant provides $100-200 to support neighborhood gatherings that bring neighbors together and strengthen community connections. Examples of eligible events include block parties, sidewalk meet-ups, athletic groups, activity clubs, and neighborhood clean-ups.

In order to be eligible for the micro-grant the event must:
-Take place in Avondale
-Be free and open to the public
-Not be an already established or recurring event (annual block party)
-Includes outreach efforts to promote the event

La Asociación de Vecinos de Avondale tiene un programa de microbecas para ayudar a conectar el vecindario! Esta microbeca ofrece entre 100 y 200 dólares para apoyar reuniones vecinales que acerquen a los vecinos. Entre los eventos elegibles se incluyen fiestas de barrio, encuentros en la acera, grupos deportivos, clubes de actividades y limpiezas del vecindario.

Para ser elegible para la micro-subvención, el evento debe:

Today, we commemorate Memorial Day and honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice and passed while serving in our armed forces. We hope everyone takes a moment to show respect and honor to our fallen soldiers this holiday.
