Ravenswood Disposal Service, located in Bedford Park (near Midway airport), is looking for a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic to service and maintain our fleet of CAT excavators and front-end loaders. This will involve everything from daily equipment checks to performing both minor and major repairs. You will also occasionally maintain equipment in our production facility.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Heavy Equipment Diesel Mechanic, you will provide a full range of maintenance and repair services on the company’s CAT excavators and front-end loaders in order to keep our equipment in top form. We prefer to make as many repairs as possible in-house including engine overhauls, transmission replacement and limited body work. You must be self-motivated, have a sense of ownership of your work, and take initiative in providing preventative maintenance. You must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and display a positive attitude.
Your specific duties will include:
· Making repairs to fleet equipment, including (but not limited to) repairing engines, alignments, suspension, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems
· Diagnosing failures of equipment and disassembling, repairing and reassembling parts as necessary
· Inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other vital parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition
· Scheduling maintenance service and ordering parts
· Filling out and submitting all required documents in an accurate and timely manner
· Performing maintenance and repairs on production facility equipment as needed
· High school diploma
· OR GED; Technical school degree, a plus
· Minimum 2 years hands-on experience with medium to heavy duty diesel trucks (not regular automotive experience); refer unit experience, a plus
· Ability to obtain a Class A or B CDL
· Ability to pass pre-employment drug screen
· Must have own tools
· Good driving record with no more than 5 points on license
· Insurable to drive our company vehicles
· Reliable transportation to work

You must be self-motivated and able to effectively maintain the vehicle fleet without supervision. You must also have a sense of ownership of your work and take initiative in providing preventative maintenance. You must also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and display a positive attitude.
Your specific duties will include
· Making repairs to fleet vehicles, including (but not limited to) repairing engines, alignments, suspension, hydraulics, transmissions and electrical systems
· Diagnosing failures of vehicles and disassembling, repairing and reassembling parts as necessary
· Performing routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries and lubricating equipment and machinery
· Inspecting brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings and other vital parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition
· Inspecting, repairing and maintaining refrigeration systems
· Conducting a daily walk-around inspection of fleet to ensure that trucks are in good general working order
· Making a weekly fleet inspection to check oil and fluid levels and record service mileage
· Scheduling maintenance service and ordering parts
· Filling out and submitting all required documents in an accurate and timely manner
· Performing maintenance and repairs on production facility equipment as needed
· High school diploma
· OR GED; Technical school degree, a plus
· Minimum 2 years hands-on experience with medium to heavy duty diesel trucks (not regular automotive experience); re**er unit experience, a plus
