On Wednesday, July 20, the Coleman Entrepreneurship Center, DePaul University hosted the fifth annual University Pitch Madness Competition at DePaul's Lincoln Park Campus. Student startups from eight Midwest universities showcased their businesses and competed for a chance to win top prizes.

This year's participants include startups from DePaul, University of Chicago, Michigan State university, Illinois Institute of Technology University of Illinois System, University of Iowa, Marquette University, Washington University-St. Louis and Northwestern University. Event attendees then voted for their favorite startup from each institution.

Congrats to everyone for making this event a success!

We are deeply saddened to learn that DePaul alumni, Kevin and Irina McCarthy, were among the victims whose lives were taken in the Fourth of July parade shooting in Highland Park.

Kevin McCarthy, age 37, earned a Bachelor of Science in finance in 2011. His wife, Irina (Levberg) McCarthy, age 35, earned a Bachelor of Science in finance in 2009.

Congrats to Associate Professor Lisa Young on her appointment as director of the School of Hospitality Leadership at DePaul (DePaul Hospitality), effective today. In her new role, Lisa will oversee the school’s academic programs, industry outreach and centers, which include the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation Center for Student Development and Engagement.
