Are low-cost assets taking up too much of your finance team’s time? It may be time to raise your cap!

GFOA’s Raise Your Cap Challenge encourages governments to review their capitalization thresholds and consider whether a higher threshold could reduce administrative work without sacrificing sound financial reporting.

Here’s how to participate:

1. Review your current capitalization threshold.
2. Evaluate whether a higher threshold makes sense.
3. Update your threshold.
4. Submit documentation of your new threshold by January 31, 2027.

Today, we're celebrating another Certified Public Finance Officer! Mi Ra Park, CPFO, SHRM-SCP is finance officer for the Transportation Agency for Monterey County, California. Congratulations to Sarah Brown, a recipient of GFOA’s Recognition for Outstanding Public Service. Sarah has 15 years of public finance experience and currently serves as treasury manager for Hennepin County in Minneapolis.

Previously, as St. Paul city treasurer, she helped guide the city through a major 2025 cybersecurity incident, keeping payroll and vendor payments moving while securing the city’s banking operations and managing disclosure requirements for a bond sale.

Sarah also led the implementation of a local sales tax, expanded electronic payment options, and developed debt strategies for major capital projects. She currently chairs GFOA’s Committee on Economic Development and Capital Planning and its Black Caucus.
