Many Cook County court proceedings may be attended remotely under Illinois Supreme Court Rule 45.
Eligible participants may be able to appear by Zoom or telephone instead of traveling to the courthouse. For those without reliable access to technology, Remote Access Centers are available throughout Cook County.

Chief Judge Charles Beach, Deputy Chief Judge Michael Barrett, and Presiding Judge of the Domestic Relations Division Regina Scannicchio welcomed 25 law students to the Domestic Relations Division's 2026 Summer Extern Program.
Selected from more than 50 applicants representing law schools across six states, these externs will spend the summer working directly with judges and gaining firsthand insight into the administration of justice.
In addition to observing court proceedings, participants will take part in the Division's annual Mock Trial, receiving valuable courtroom experience and mentorship from judges, law clerks, and members of the legal community.
We are proud to help prepare the next generation of legal professionals for careers in law and public service.

Last week, 11 participants gathered in Judge Burns’ courtroom to celebrate their graduation from Cook County’s Problem-Solving Court program.
Participants in these programs complete intensive supervision that may include:
🟦 Behavioral health treatment
🟦 Regular drug testing
🟦 Ongoing judicial oversight
🟦 Support from prosecutors, defenders, probation officers, clinical staff, and peer mentors
Problem-Solving Courts are designed to address the underlying issues that contribute to involvement in the justice system while promoting accountability, recovery, and long-term stability.
Cook County has been a leader in Problem-Solving Courts for decades, helping connect individuals with treatment, resources, and support systems that create pathways forward.
