Chief Judge Charles Beach, Deputy Chief Judge Michael Barrett, and Presiding Judge of the Domestic Relations Division Regina Scannicchio welcomed 25 law students to the Domestic Relations Division's 2026 Summer Extern Program.

Selected from more than 50 applicants representing law schools across six states, these externs will spend the summer working directly with judges and gaining firsthand insight into the administration of justice.

In addition to observing court proceedings, participants will take part in the Division's annual Mock Trial, receiving valuable courtroom experience and mentorship from judges, law clerks, and members of the legal community.

We are proud to help prepare the next generation of legal professionals for careers in law and public service.

In honor of National Treatment Court Month, the Circuit Court of Cook County is recognizing the important work of its Problem-Solving Courts.

These specialized courts provide an alternative path focused on rehabilitation, accountability, treatment, and intensive supervision for eligible participants facing underlying mental health, substance use, and other social challenges.

By bringing together judges, attorneys, probation officers, treatment providers, social workers, and community partners, Problem-Solving Courts help participants pursue recovery, build long-term stability, and reduce future involvement in the justice system — all while promoting safer and healthier communities throughout Cook County.
