October is National Crime Prevention Month.

Crime prevention is a community effort. Across Cook County, courts, community organizations and public agencies work together to address the challenges that can contribute to involvement in the justice system and promote safer communities.

The Circuit Court of Cook County supports prevention through Problem-Solving Courts, Restorative Justice initiatives and other community-based programs designed to promote accountability, address underlying challenges and connect individuals with resources.

Yesterday, Judge Diann Marsalek joined fellow judges, attorneys and members of the legal community for the 92nd Annual Votive Red Mass of the Holy Spirit at Holy Name Cathedral.

Traditionally known as the Red Mass, the annual gathering brings together members of the legal profession and the community to pray for those entrusted with the administration of justice and to reflect on the importance of service, integrity and the rule of law.

Judge Susan Kennedy Sullivan was honored during this year’s Red Mass for her contributions to the legal community and her commitment to the administration of justice.

Thank you to the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Chicago for continuing this longstanding tradition and bringing members of the legal community together in fellowship and reflection.

Continuing the work toward a more effective and more equitable justice system.

Chief Judge Charles S. Beach II joined former Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans and members of Cook County's Safety and Justice Challenge (SJC) working group Wednesday evening at Venue West to talk about where the work goes next.

Cook County has been part of the Safety and Justice Challenge since 2015, bringing together justice system partners to dig into the data, test new strategies and find ways to safely shrink the local jail population, while tackling the disparities baked into the system.

The work continues through collaboration, and a shared commitment to serving Cook County communities.
