Last Sunday, Tawnya felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude as she watched her children play and lovingly tease each other in their new home.

Tawnya used to be homeless. She was in our programs at True North for about half a year. During that time, she said our team supported her, treated her well, and made sure she was fed and "completely cared for so I could do the heavy lifting I needed to navigate the trauma and find stability for my kids."

Now they all share a place they can call home together. 🏠

"My kids and I are doing great again," she said. "Thank you for keeping me fed and okay while I grinded and got out of there and got them home with mom! I will never ever forget who had me during that time."

We are so proud of you and so happy for you and your kiddos, Tawnya! Thank you for sharing your story. πŸ€—

And thank to all of our donors who help us help families find their way home again. πŸ’™ truenorthbutte.org/donate

Say hello to our vocational training hospitality team: our director Mason is pictured here (left to right) with our shelter guests Antoine, Levi and Monique! πŸ€—

They prepared and served breakfast and lunch at the North State Housing Summit on August 25, presented by Chico Housing Action Team -- and it was delicious!πŸ₯ͺ🍎

As part of our programming at the Torres Shelter, we offer valuable vocational training and skill-building opportunities in hospitality and in maintenance and facilities.

Hospitality program participants receive their California Food Handler Card and safety training, then they prepare, cook and serve meals, as well as assist with kitchen sanitation. We serve three meals a day at the shelter!

This program is focused on providing our guests with the training and skills needed to secure and pursue successful careers within the hospitality and food service industry. πŸ™Œ

Thank you, CHAT for inviting the True North team to serve food AND to speak on a panel at the North State Housing Summit! It was a great day! πŸ’™

Everybody say hello to our Torres Shelter guest Kevin! πŸ‘‹

Kevin is pictured here with our Shelter Services Administrator Saralyn, who has been one of his biggest supporters on his pathway out of homelessness. 🏠

No matter what challenges he faces, Kevin always approaches them with a positive attitude. We want to give him a shout out for not giving up and for continuing to act with kindness, respectfulness, and a willingness to lend a hand! 🀝

Kevin is always willing to help around the Torres Shelter, he takes pride in keeping his living area clean, and he consistently shows gratitude for our support and services.

He has persevered through significant hardships and personal struggles with remarkable strength and resilience. Even during difficult times, he put the needs of his parents ahead of his own. He cared for and supported them before they passed away. πŸ’™

"Kevin's story is one of selflessness, perseverance, and determination. Despite the obstacles he has faced, he continues to move forward with grace, compassion, and hope. He is someone who inspires those around him, and I am grateful to know him," Saralyn shared.

We are proud of you, Kevin! You've got this! πŸ€—
