School safety and the well-being of our kids matter to all of us. And when it comes to the role of School Resource Officers (SROs) in our schools, community input matters.

We’re inviting parents, students, and community members to join us for a conversation about SROs and the role they can play in our schools- from helping keep campuses safe to building relationships with students, being a positive role model, and creating opportunities for trust and connection.

If you’re a parent who values having officers on campus, we especially want to hear from you! Come share why it matters to your family, ask questions, and help make sure those perspectives are part of the conversation.

You don’t have to be an expert or have all the answers. Just come ready to share your thoughts and be part of the discussion.

Your voice matters. Your involvement makes a difference. Help shape the conversation about safety and positive connections in our schools.

Fowl on the play 🀚🏼

This is your annual reminder that roosters are illegal within the city limits of Chico, and abandoning them is a crime. Please- don’t make your rooster someone else’s problem.

β€’ Abandoning animals is illegal and can result in fines or criminal charges.
β€’ Roosters left in neighborhoods pose safety, noise, and health concerns.
β€’ Abandoned animals often suffer injury, starvation, or death.

βœ… If you can no longer care for a rooster, please contact animal services or a rescue group for safe and legal alternatives.

Credit Card Skimmers- How to Avoid Being Scammed

We’ve recently recovered several card-skimming devices from local merchants. Here’s how you can spot the signs and protect your money before scammers get their hands on it.

β€’ Inspect the reader: Check ATMs, gas pumps, and store terminals for loose, crooked, or damaged parts before inserting or swiping your card.
β€’ Do the wiggle test: Pull or tug on the card reader slot; if it feels loose or moves, a fake overlay skimmer may be attached.
β€’ Shield your PIN: Cover the keypad with your free hand when typing your PIN to block hidden cameras or fake keypad overlays. Or, run your debit card as a credit card.
β€’ Avoid magnetic stripes: If you cannot tap to pay, use the EMV chip reader rather than swiping the magnetic stripe.
β€’ Pay Inside: Consider paying inside with the attendant, not outside at the pump.
β€’ Visibility: Choose a fuel pump that is closer to the store and in direct view of the attendant. These pumps are less likely to be targets for skimmers.
β€’ Monitor accounts: Check your bank statements weekly rather than monthly to catch unauthorized charges early.

If you locate or believe you’ve been a victim of fraud via one of these devices, please call us to file a report at (530) 897-4911.

Talk about a hands-on career lesson πŸ’£

CPD Bomb Technicians recently visited an 8th grade CTE class at Achieve Charter School to give students a behind-the-scenes look at a career in public safety bomb tech work.

Students learned what it takes to become a bomb technician, heard about the specialized training involved, and even got a hands-on lesson in safely disarming a simulated explosive device.

Career exploration hits a little different when your guest speakers show up in a bomb truck πŸ‘€

Thanks to Ms. Ralston & Achieve Charter School for inviting our team into the classroom and giving students a chance to explore a career they may not have considered before!

If you’re looking for your very own Chaos Goblin, do we have some great news πŸ˜… These perfect babies are all up for adoption, and fees are waived all week!!

FREE ADOPTION EVENT | Thanks to a grant from β€œBest Friends Animal Society,” the Chico Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees during the week of 10/5-10/9. The shelter will be open for walkthroughs and staff will be on hand for one-on-one meet & greets with potential adoption matches.

The waived fee includes spay/neuter surgery, current vaccinations, Feline Leukemia Virus testing for cats or heartworm testing for dogs, and a one-year licensing fee (for Chico residents).

To further support pet owners, the shelter offers free pet ID tags for Chico residents and microchipping services to help families reunite with lost pets more quickly.

The standard adoption process applies. To view adoptable pets or request a free pet ID tag, visit the shelter’s website at www.chicoanimalshelter.org, or visit the shelter during open adoption walk-through hours, Monday-Friday 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. For additional information or questions, contact the shelter at (530) 894-5630.
