Atwell members are clearing from a traffic crash with entrapment off of Stirewalt Rd. A single passenger vehicle left the roadway, went down an embankment and landed in a drained pond. Crews stabilized the vehicle using a winch off of Rescue Company 40 and quickly fred the trapped occupant. Atwell was assisted by China Grove Fire and Rowan County Rescue Squad, Inc.. As always we greatly appreciate all the hard work from all members on the scene!

If you haven’t heard, we are getting a new home!! We are proud to announce that we will soon begin construction on our new Station 40. We would like to invite the public to our ground breaking ceremony on September 21st at 6PM. This is a huge milestone for our department and we are beyond excited to see this station completed!

Motor Vehicle Accident with Extrication

At 9:46 on 8/24/26, South Iredell was dispatched to a Traffic Accident with a rollover at Patterson Farm Rd and Linwood Rd, a South Iredell Volunteer arrived and found a two vehicle accident with one overturned off the roadway. Engine 12 confirmed an entrapment and requested Atwell Fire Department to assist. Patient was extricated in approximately 12 minutes.

Update: The fire has increased to 50 acres and is 60% contained. Expect smokey conditions along West C street and Enochville Rd!

We have been assisting Enochville Fire & Rescue and Kannapolis Fire and Police most of the afternoon with a large woods fire off of West C street. The fire grew to over 20 acres. Containment measures are in place and crews will monitor the fire for the next several days. Please remember we are in a BURN BAN!!!!!

Over the past 24hrs, Atwell has responded to several major incidents ranging from Working Fires to Pin-ins. Our members are dedicated to serving this area and we could not do it without the continued support from our Mutual Aid agencies and each member of our community.

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.
