If you are a woman in agriculture looking to experience an incredible sense of community, you need to join us at our VCE WISE (Women Increasing Skills and Education) events! This is one of our favorite programs to help plan and put on!

Last week, we held ShepherdWISE, CattleWISE, and EquipmentWISE in Nelson County at Devils Backbone Brewing Company Basecamp over 3 days. Women received hands-on experience with skills such as backing a trailer, driving a tractor, chuteside skills, low stress cattle handling, etc. We also had time of fellowship at our networking dinner at Pharsalia building a supportive community of women in agriculture!

This event is an all-hands-on-deck effort from Virginia Cooperative Extension women agriculture and natural resources (ANR) agents from around the state! ❤️

Virginia’s inaugural 𝐅𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟓–𝟐𝟕, giving everyone three days to enjoy recreational rod and reel fishing in both fresh and saltwater without purchasing a fishing license.🎣

We had a great time at the 2026 Kentland Farm Dual Field Day!

Participants explored both livestock and horticulture topics through demonstrations, research updates, and farm tours. From forage research and soil health to vegetable production, beekeeping, and pollination, the event gave the public an opportunity to learn more about the important research and Extension work happening right here at Kentland Farm.

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification & Exam

October 20th, 2026, 10 am to 2 pm

Location – VCE Floyd Office in Floyd Education Room @ 209 Fox St NW, B-2, Floyd VA 24091

This 8-hour Food Protection Manager Certification was developed by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association. The text, ServSafe ®Manager Book, is part of the Foundation's food safety program. After completing the classroom work, participants take a national certification exam developed by the Educational Foundation, upon passing participants receive their Food Protection Manager Certification that Is valid for 5 years.

The cost of Full Class Enrollment is $170. The fee includes textbook, exam & certification.

Our first PastureWise Equine event for the year was a success! 🐎🌾

Participants received educational hands-on experience with body condition scoring, identifying and controlling pasture weeds, hay testing and nutritional analysis, soil testing, and the importance of soil health!

This program will be held in Powhatan on September 18th and Fredericksburg on October 30th.
