What’s the overlooked critical success factor for third-party inspection programs?

Fire officials from Maui and Nampa, plus inspection contractor Brooks Cato of Fire Protection Services, covered it in our webinar, Hiding in Plain Sight. Missed it? We’ll share the answer with you now: it’s active management of the inspection companies that submit reports to the department. LIV’s Inspection Partner Success team does that work, supporting every inspection company and reviewing every report for our customers using our Third-Party Inspections application.

In this webinar clip, Chief Elijah Effinger of Nampa Fire Protection District says the work has “really increased our safety for our citizens.” Since adding Inspection Partner Success in February, Nampa processes reports 89% faster.

Inspection Partner Success is included with LIV’s Third-Party Inspections application, and like the application, it’s at no cost to your department.

Safe charging is this year’s Fire Prevention Week™ theme, and the e-bikes, scooters, and power tools charging in apartment buildings, offices, and shops make it a concern for property owners as well.

Yesterday we looked at the partnership behind fire prevention: inspection companies test the systems, fire prevention teams follow up, and property owners make the repairs.

Today is for the owners and managers. Below are the four habits that keep a building safe all year.

Keeping sprinkler, fire alarm, and kitchen hood suppression systems in working order takes a partnership: the inspection technician who tests them, the fire prevention team that reviews the reports and follows up, and the owner who makes any needed repairs.

That partnership was at the center of a recent panel with Captain Parrish Purdy of Maui Fire Department, Fire Marshal Elijah Effinger of Nampa Fire Protection District, and Brooks Cato of Fire Protection Services.

This Fire Prevention Week™, thank you to the inspection companies who are part of that work every day.

We asked Ron Johnson, who spent 29 years in the fire service before joining LIV, what he'd most like people to know about lithium-ion battery safety.

His answer: almost all of the battery fires he saw were preventable.

This Fire Prevention Week™, take a minute to check how you charge. Ron's tips:
✅ Charge on a hard surface like a desk, counter, or tile, never a bed or couch
✅ Stop using any battery that's dented, swollen, or damaged
✅ Don't charge while you sleep or when you're out

If a battery gets hot, swells, or smells strange, disconnect the power. If it's smoking or on fire, get out and call 911.

Happy Fire Prevention Week™ to West Jordan Fire Department. Here's a look at one part of their prevention program.

When senior firefighters retire, the building knowledge they carry can retire with them. West Jordan's answer: stop treating pre-planning as a separate project and start capturing the knowledge during the work they were already doing.

The department uses LIV to document buildings during routine business inspections — alarm panels, riser rooms, exits, standpipes, even property-specific hazards — and pushes the completed plans into VersaTerm so every responder, including mutual aid, has them on arrival.

The byproduct: stronger relationships with local businesses, structured field experience for newer firefighters, and a measurable drop in false-alarm volume.

It's Fire Prevention Week™, and the spotlight is on work that usually happens out of sight.

To the fire marshals, inspectors, public educators, and the teams supporting you: the inspections, code reviews, and conversations you have are what keep fires from ever starting. That work is the reason LIV exists, and the mission behind everything we build. Thank you.

Heading to a conference during Fire Prevention Month?

It's one of the busiest stretches of the year for prevention teams, so we especially value the time you make for conversations at these events.

The LIV team will be in Washington, Minnesota, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Texas, showing how departments using LIV strengthen their programs and improve compliance by managing third-party inspections and their own fire department inspections in one integrated platform.

We'll also demo two capabilities built with input from the departments using LIV: enhanced fire watch, which replaces paper patrol logs, and AI Report Upload, which takes manual report entry off the inspection companies working in your jurisdiction.
