Caregivers spend so much time showing up for someone else. 💌 Your support helps make sure they have somewhere to turn, too — whether they need guidance, a listening ear, a break from caregiving or simply a reminder that they’re not alone. When you give to SCRC, you’re helping extend that support to family caregivers in our community.

In this month's episode, Roberto chats with Robert Betancourt, Founder and Director of SoCal Stroke Survivors, a nonprofit organization based in Chula Vista dedicated to enhancing the lives of stroke survivors and their families through education, advocacy, and compassionate care.

Listen to their conversation about the causes, warning signs, and lasting impact of strokes - the leading cause of disability worldwide - and why acting fast when symptoms appear can mean the difference between recovery and permanent damage.

Robert shares his own powerful story of surviving a major stroke in 2022 and how that experience inspired him to start SoCal Stroke Survivors, while Roberto highlights the critical role family caregivers play in a stroke survivor's recovery and the support services available through SCRC.

Keywords: aphasia, vascular dementia, stroke recovery, caregiver support, disability

Long-term care is one of those things that’s easy to put off because it can feel like a conversation for someday. But planning doesn’t mean predicting exactly what will happen. ✍️ It means giving your family time to talk, ask questions, explore options and make decisions before a crisis makes those decisions for you.

is a good reminder to start the conversation—even if you don’t have all the answers yet.
