The growing season may slow down in the fall, but there’s still plenty happening at Shaker Trace Nursery 🌱🍂

During the colder months, our team and volunteers dry, clean and sort seeds that will help grow native plants for future restoration projects and plant sales.

SPOTTED:
We didn’t expect to find an emu on the mountain bike trail today, but here we are! This is Eddie! 😂

Eddie escaped from a neighbor’s property over the weekend and took an unexpected trip to Mitchell Memorial Forest! Our team spotted him on the trail this afternoon and safely got him back home!

Things are taking shape at the Embshoff Woods disc golf course! 🥏

Our team is pouring new concrete tee pads as we transform the 9-hole course into 18 holes, giving you more ways to play!

The refresh builds on feedback from local disc golfers and park visitors. We’re also tackling some conservation work along the way, including removing invasive honeysuckle and addressing a buried drain line.

We’re aiming to wrap up construction by the end of December. In the meantime, you can find the latest project details here: https://bit.ly/3TVVIi4

If the water looks like someone spilled green paint on it, it’s probably worth taking a closer look 👀

Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), sometimes called blue-green algae, can form on lakes, ponds and slow-moving streams. They often look like spilled paint, pea soup or a thick surface scum.

These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to people, pets and wildlife. That’s why Great Parks works with Hamilton County Public Health to monitor local waterways for HABs.

You can help reduce the conditions that contribute to blooms by:
💧 Use fertilizer and pesticides sparingly
💧 Choose phosphorus-free products when possible
💧 Pick up after pets
💧 Maintain your septic system

If you spot what looks like a harmful algal bloom, avoid entering the water and let Great Parks know.

A little awareness goes a long way toward keeping our waterways healthy! Thank you for your efforts in keeping your parks and community safe!
