We had a great turnout (more than 50 people) on Saturday. Now it's time to think about the NEXT event. On March 5, 2022, we will be holding a show-and-tell event where we encourage you and other members of the community to share what you know. If you—or anyone you know—has found or collected artifacts from the area (or elsewhere in the Miami Valley), we would like to hear more about it, show us your artifacts (if any), and give you an opportunity to share that story. If your family has been in the area for a long time and you have interesting family stories, photos, or have done genealogical work of some kind, we want to learn more about that as well. Archaeologists and historians will be on hand to discuss and record what people bring in.
One of the most important aspects of this project (and one that sets it apart from more traditional academic work) is that we genuinely want to involve local people as partners in sharing what they know and helping to guide our research as we move ahead. This will be one of what we hope will be many opportunities to do so. This event is by appointment between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. in half hour increments (10:00, 10:30, etc.). The Miami Valley Recollections and Reconnections (MVRR) project has an exciting lineup of events for the next several months.
On Saturday, February 19, 2022, we will be holding an event at the theater in the Anderson Center located at 7850 Five Mile Road. Starting at 10:00 am, we will present brief overviews of what we have learned so far from our fieldwork last summer. We will also be outlining plans for the upcoming field season and related activities such as ongoing exhibit and virtual reality projects.
This event is free and open to the public. Come join us. We would love to see you there.
