UAS500: Southwest Ohio Regional Public Safety Drone Team

Congratulations to our very own Katie Thielmeyer for her leadership and service to public safety. She is the recipient of the 2024 Mission Award from GTSC's Homeland Security Today Holiday Heroes Awards.

The team is assisting UCPD for the UC Bearcats game today. Solar panels are being utilized to run the tethered drone, while the command bus is powering the screens, laptops, and battery chargers.

On scene to assist with public safety operations for Riverfest. Over 500,000 people attend this festival on the Ohio River between Cincinnati and Newport.

Thermal aerial views assisted command to identify water stream locations and hot spots

UAS500: Southwest Ohio Regional Public Safety Drone Team assisted the Cincinnati Fire Department and building department with an inspection of the Carew Tower using the drone after a brick had fallen onto a car. The drone was able to see areas of building that needed evaluated without having to put a person in an unnecessary dangerous position.

UAS500: Southwest Ohio Regional Public Safety Drone Team is assisting the University of Cincinnati Police and Athletic Departments with public safety aerial overwatch before, during, and after the Bearcats games and parades. Using DroneSense, we are able to provide a live stream to the command post so they are able to see in real-time what is happening and make strategic and potentially life-saving decisions. Additionally, with the help of D-Fend Solutions we are able to deploy the EnforceAir unit, which will detect unauthorized or rogue drones, allowing for mitigation of potential hazards to the public.
