John Berrens, a retired OHLSD school counselor and published author, visited Mrs. Heather Berkemeier's Creative Writing II class at Oak High High School near the end of the school year to discuss his book, "My Name Is...".

The book details the stories of seven teenages from single-parent, divorced, and broken homes. He graciously shared his knowledge about writing and the publishing process with the students, many of whom wish to be published poets and authors in the future. There are also plans to turn his book into a play.

❤️🖤 Congratulations to our incredible Choir Director, Chelsey Kurtz Sweetman, on being named the 2026 Spark Award Winner!! 🖤❤️

“The Spark Award, presented annually by Alfred Music and MakeMusic, is a national award that honors outstanding and innovative music educators. It recognizes teachers who go ‘beyond the notes,’ bridging the gap between the classroom and the community while igniting a lifelong passion for music.”

Mrs. Sweetman truly embodies everything this award represents through her passion, dedication, and love for our students and music program. We are so proud to have her leading our choir program and inspiring our Bobcats every single day!
