FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE-

On October 7, 2026, Colerain Township Police officers were alerted to possible threats being made to the district via social media outlets by Northwest Local School District. School Resource Officers immediately began to investigate the threats. During the course of the investigation, a 13-year-old male student who was and has not been in attendance was identified as the suspect and Colerain High School was named in their social media posts. The investigation confirmed the suspect generated the threats.

On October 13, 2026, the suspect was arrested by Colerain Township Police Officers. He has been charged with Inducing Panic, a felony of the 2nd degree, and Disorderly Conduct, a misdemeanor of the 4th degree. The close relationship between the Colerain Township Police Department and the Northwest Local School District allowed for prompt action to be taken while ensuring student safety. No imminent threat was identified and no additional safety protocols needed to be initiated.

“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is our highest priority,” said Darrell Yater, Superintendent for Northwest Local School District. “Our partnership with the Colerain Township Police Department enabled us to act quickly and decisively to protect that safety before it was ever put at risk.”

Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Colerain Township Police Department at (513) 321-2677.

🛑 Before the school week starts up again, we want to remind drivers to STOP when you see the flashing crosswalk signs.

We've had a big problem with this, particularly near Northwest High School. When the crosswalk lights are activated, you MUST STOP! Drivers who do not obey are facing potential charges - including a minor misdemeanor and $150 fine all the way up to a $500 fine and 60 days in jail.

Watch out for our children - STOP for the crosswalk!

🩷 You may notice our officers wearing pink badges this month in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

These badges are a small but meaningful symbol of our support for everyone in our community who has been affected by breast cancer—those currently facing a diagnosis and treatment, survivors, families, caregivers, and those remembering loved ones.

To every fighter and survivor: we see your strength, courage, and resilience. The Colerain Township Police Department stands with you this month and always.

"I could name 10-15 students in the past week who have come up to Officer Wilson to talk specifically about something to help them get through their day. To me, those are the stories that really prove the success we have with these officers." - Principal Shrewsberry

🐾 Who let the dogs out? We definitely did - that was us.

Last week, Houston Early Learning Center hosted the Colerain Township Police Department's K9 Unit to help teach students about the roles of dogs in law enforcement - and because they're such handsome doggos!

All five of our K9s have been donated thanks to the generosity of The Matt Haverkamp Foundation. Students got to meet K9 Chuck, K9 Tiko, and K9 Ghost - who was also the 100th dog donated by The Haverkamp Foundation! Thank you so much for having us out and helping us build positive relationships with some of our youngest residents!

Today, we pause to honor and remember all of the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We stand with the families, first responders, and all who continue to carry the weight of that day. May we never forget the courage, sacrifice, and unity that rose from the darkness.
