Planting native plants do more than attract beneficial pollinators. They help absorb stormwater runoff, filter pollutants, and don't require additional water or fertilizer, so they're better for the environment. We took all of these photos today. If you've ever wanted to start your own pollinator garden with native plants, check out our website on how to get started.

Thanks to SD1 for hosting us at Public Service Park to talk with Cincinnati Sarah about the many benefits of planting native plants in your yard.

Environmental benefits of native plants

Planting for Pollinators not only attracts wildlife to your garden but also benefits the environment. Native plants have deeper roots, meaning they are drought-tolerant and require less water. After heavy rains, they can absorb more water than grass or many non-native garden plants, which means less water runoff into our streets and storm drains.
