Stand With Minnesota 02/11/2026

The CYE Editorial Team joins in sincere solidarity with the children, youth, and families of Minnesota, and all communities impacted by the traumatizing violence carried out by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). CYE is dedicated to bridging theory, research, practice, action, and policy related to protecting children’s environments and promoting their well-being and participation. We are deeply concerned about the significant impacts on children, youth, and families' health, well-being, and human rights, and join the National Association for the Education of Young (link in comment).

Congratulations to the Preservation Parks of Delaware County - the winner of the 2025 Ohio Parks and Recreation Association Governor’s Award for the Braille Trail at Hogback Ridge Park in Sunbury: the only known Braille Trail in central Ohio!

Developed in partnership with Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities, the American Council of the Blind of Ohio Sports & Recreation Committee, and the Sunbury Lions Club, the Braille Trail reflects collaboration, creativity, and resourcefulness. In addition to the trail itself, the project also includes the park district’s first family-style accessible restroom with an adult changing station and a 3D tactile map at the trailhead. These achievements remove barriers and set a new standard for accessibility, allowing all visitors to listen to the forest, feel the bark of a shagbark hickory, and explore the tactile shape of Ohio’s state wildflower, the trillium.

🌟 New Special Issue Alert! 🌟

We’re excited to announce the latest special issue of Children, Youth & Environments: Contemporary Issues in Designing for Play, featuring scholarship from the International Play Association 2023 Conference.

Inside you’ll find research and field reports exploring how memory, culture, tools, and design influence play—from caregivers’ childhood memories shaping play spaces, to innovative toolkits for nature play and accessibility, to children’s own visions for adventurous and inclusive neighborhoods. Reports from around the world highlight creative approaches to play design, education, and practice.

Together, these contributions call us to view play design as a collective, ethical, and interdisciplinary process—one that values both child and adult perspectives while addressing inequalities and imagining bold futures for play.
