GRAND JURY PETITION UPDATE

The Rogers County Election Board has completed its statutory responsibility regarding the grand jury petition delivered to our office.

Our office received 4,277 signatures for verification. Following the procedures established for determining qualified electors, our staff carefully reviewed the petition and verified that 4,040 of those signers are qualified electors within Rogers County.

This was a detailed process. Petition pages were copied and secured, signatures were counted, and each signer was researched according to the verification procedures provided to our office. Once verification was complete, the qualified signatures were counted and our findings certified.

Today, September 3, 2026, I returned the original petition documents, along with our research and certification, to the Rogers County Court Clerk.

I want to publicly thank our Election Board staff. They approached this responsibility exactly as they approach an election, with patience, accuracy, professionalism, and respect for the process. At the same time, the regular work of our office continued, including voter registration processing and our other election responsibilities.

It is important to clarify what today’s certification means. The Election Board’s responsibility is to determine the number of petition signers who are qualified electors within the county. Our office does not determine the ultimate legal sufficiency of the petition or what occurs next in the court process.

Our portion of the process is now complete.

Whether we’re administering an election, processing a voter registration application, or carrying out a responsibility such as this one, our commitment remains the same: follow the law, follow the process, document our work, and serve the voters of Rogers County with transparency and integrity.

Julie Dermody
Secretary, Rogers County Election Board

An update on the grand jury petition signature verification:

We received 343 petition pages containing thousands of signatures.

Not every page was full. Before beginning the actual verification process, our staff carefully documented and prepared everything we received.

We made copies of every petition sheet, numbered each page, maintained the petitions in the groups in which they were received, and used different ink colors while processing each set so we could clearly identify and track the different groups.

Every signature was counted, and then counted again. Now comes the meticulous part.

There are very specific criteria we are required to follow when determining whether each individual signature can be verified. Our responsibility is to examine every signature submitted, apply the same standards consistently, accurately document our findings, and complete the process according to law.

We will begin the individual verification process Monday.

After the last ten days of conducting and closing an election, followed immediately by receiving and preparing these petitions. I told my staff to go home and enjoy a quiet, restful weekend.

This work requires accuracy, concentration and attention to detail. I want rested eyes and clear minds when we begin.

Monday morning, we get to work.

One signature at a time. Meticulously, impartially and by the book.
