Roseland Vol. Fire Department

10/23/2026

Today, Roseland Fire Department had the honor and privilege of assisting our neighbors at Williams Township Fire Department with their Fire Prevention event at Williams Township School.

We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be part of this important event and help educate students on fire safety and prevention.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to Cerro Gordo Fire Department and the North Carolina Forest Service for their participation and assistance in making today’s event a success.

Working together to educate our youth, promote fire safety, and strengthen our communities is what the fire service is all about!

As fall wildfire season begins in North Carolina, the N.C. Forest Service is urging the public to take extra care with outdoor burning. Wildfire activity typically increases from October through early December, when falling leaves, dry vegetation and changing weather conditions can allow fires to spread quickly.

“Most wildfires in this state are preventable,” said Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler. “Human activity continues to be responsible for more than 99% of wildfires in North Carolina, making individual actions one of our most important tools for preventing wildfires. Before you burn, take simple steps to keep your backyard fire in your backyard.”

We strongly advise the public to appreciate fireworks displays conducted by professionals rather than hosting private shows, given the heightened risk of wildfires due to dry conditions and hot temperatures, which could jeopardize properties and neighboring areas if fireworks are not used with caution.

The Roseland Fire Department expresses its heartfelt condolences to the family of Deputy Bost in this time of great loss. The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office and family will be in our thoughts and prayers for an extended time.

Please use caution when conducting any open burning. If possible wait until conditions improve!

🔥 HEADS UP: High Fire Danger has returned to most of the state, a result of abnormally dry fuel conditions further exacerbated by high temperatures low relative humidity, and gusty SW winds of 10-25MPH, resulting in high fire danger across most of North Carolina! This will continue this afternoon and into Sunday.

Fire fuels could easily ignite and spread rapidly in these conditions. Residents and visitors to the area are urged to properly dispose of cigarette butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate containers. Exercise caution if operating any equipment that could create sparks, and keep vehicles off dry leaves and grass.

PUBLIC NOTICE:
We understand everyone wants to maintain a clean yard; however, the statewide burn ban remains in effect and conditions are currently critical for extreme wildfire activity.

To avoid fines or citations, do not conduct any outdoor burning until weather conditions improve and the burn ban is officially lifted.

Your cooperation is essential. Help us protect our community, homes, and first responders by refraining from burning at this time.
