Last night marked the 19th Annual Claxton-Evans County Chamber of Commerce's First Responder Appreciation Dinner, and once again, our businesses and several individuals showed up for its first responders!

A big THANK YOU to the Claxton-Evans County Chamber of Commerce and everyone who helped/contributed to making this evening possible. There are so many people that work countless hours to give back, however, we can to give a special thank you to Mr. Bruce Purcell. The great food, generous donations, and fellowship made for an enjoyable night!

Today, Phillips Insurance Group held a community education session on Medicare and safety. Fire Marshal Jason Blalock was asked to attend and spread the word about fire safety for the upcoming winter months. We appreciate the opportunity and are always ready and waiting to spread the word about fire safety for everyone.

PUMPKIN FEST WEATHER UPDATE!

Rain or shine, Pumpkin Fest is ON!

While there is a possibility of rainy weather this Saturday, October 10th, we want everyone to know that the 5th Annual Pumpkin Fest will go on as planned!

We’re keeping an eye on the forecast and are prepared to move activities indoors if needed.

A little rain won’t stop the fun! We’re looking forward to a wonderful day of fall festivities and fellowship with our community!

🔥 Fire Prevention Month! 🔥

All month long, Claxton Fire Department will be sharing fire safety tips to help keep our families, homes, and community safe.

As was mentioned in former posts, this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” and it focuses on the growing risks from lithium-ion batteries that power so many of the devices we use every day.

Lithium-ion batteries are found in phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, toys, and more. They’re convenient, but if they aren’t used and charged properly, they can overheat and cause a fire.

Take a few minutes to check your charging habits and make sure you’re charging safely. A few simple steps can make a big difference!

We’ll be sharing tips, resources, and reminders throughout the month, so be sure to follow along and help us spread the word.

Together, we can keep communities a little safer!

**SEMANA DE PREVENCIÓN DE INCENDIOS — 4–10 DE OCTUBRE DE 2026**

Soy el Jefe Jason Stone del Departamento de Bomberos de Claxton.

El tema de la Semana de Prevención de Incendios de este año es **“Carga con seguridad contra incendios: La carga segura es un superpoder.”**

Todos los días utilizamos dispositivos que funcionan con baterías recargables de iones de litio: teléfonos celulares, tabletas, computadoras portátiles, herramientas eléctricas, juguetes, bicicletas eléctricas, scooters y mucho más.

Estas baterías nos facilitan la vida, pero cuando están dañadas, se cargan incorrectamente o se utilizan con el cargador equivocado, pueden sobrecalentarse y provocar un incendio.

El Departamento de Bomberos de Claxton les recuerda a todos que practiquen hábitos seguros al cargar sus dispositivos.

Utilice el cargador recomendado por el fabricante. Cargue los dispositivos sobre una superficie dura y plana; nunca sobre una cama, sofá o debajo de una almohada. Desconecte los dispositivos cuando estén completamente cargados y nunca utilice una batería que esté hinchada, dañada, demasiado caliente, echando humo o que tenga un olor extraño.

Y recuerde: mantenga los dispositivos y las baterías que se estén cargando alejados de puertas, pasillos y otras rutas de escape.

Unas cuantas decisiones sencillas pueden ayudar a prevenir un incendio y proteger a su familia y su hogar.

Durante la Semana de Prevención de Incendios, del 4 al 10 de octubre, **cargue de manera inteligente, cargue de manera segura y ayúdenos a mantener a Claxton protegida contra incendios.**
