Meeting the changing needs of our community since 1975. Serving Claymont, Wilmington, and the surrounding areas.

Founded by a group of community leaders in 1974 with a goal to meet youth and family needs in Claymont. Over the years, the scope of services has expanded to include the broader concept of community, serving the physical, emotional, educational, recreational, and cultural needs of local residents. We are pleased to serve residents from Claymont as well as Wilmington and the surrounding areas in New Castle County, Delaware. Claymont Community Center operates out of the former Claymont High School. The Center serves more than 5,000 clients annually, and with our community partners, who share our facility, we have more than 60,000 visits each year. Our primary programs include:

- Food Closet
- Learning Center (GED, ABE, ESL)
- Senior Center
- Empowered Youth

We are also home to a variety of other agencies that provide services to our community across the lifespan.

Happy National Food Day from our Community Market and Garden! They bring neighbors together to grow, share, and access fresh, nutritious food. Through our food closet and garden, the program addresses food insecurity while nurturing healthy habits, dignity, and community connection.

They are open by appointment with both daytime and evening pickup options, the Market provides free groceries—including fresh produce, meat, dairy, and shelf-stable items—to individuals and families who are struggling to afford nutritious food. Some of the produce is even grown onsite in our community garden.

Lights On Afterschool!

This week, our Empowered Youth Program joined the nationwide Lights On Afterschool celebration, shining a spotlight on the importance of quality afterschool programming!

Our kids celebrated with colorful Chalk the Walk creations, face painting, and special treats! It was a fun-filled way to recognize something we believe in every day: afterschool programs matter!

At Claymont Community Center, our Empowered Youth Program provides more than just a place to go after school. It's a place where kids can learn, grow, build friendships, discover their strengths, and feel a sense of belonging.

We're proud to keep the lights on for our youth and help them build brighter futures! 💡❤️

This week, we’re highlighting the Delaware Department of Elections!

Claymont Community Center is happy to once again serve as an Early Voting location and to host the Department of Elections as they help make voting accessible to our community.

Civic engagement is an important part of a strong, connected community. No matter your views or how you choose to vote, we encourage eligible voters to be informed, get involved, and make their voices heard.
