The Cle Elum City Council recently made the decision not to renew the City’s contract with Flock Safety and its Automated License Plate Recognition (ALPR) system. The current contract is set to expire on September 30, 2026. The Cle Elum Police Department respects the Council’s decision and appreciates the consideration given to this matter.
ALPR technology has been one of the tools available to the Cle Elum Police Department and has provided useful information in certain investigations. Like any law-enforcement resource, it is one part of a broader approach to serving and protecting our community.
The Department’s commitment to professional, community-based policing does not depend on any single technology or resource. We will continue to work with the tools and resources available to us to respond to calls, investigate crime, and support the safety of our community.
The Cle Elum Police Department remains committed to using law-enforcement resources responsibly and in accordance with Washington State law, the United States Constitution, and the rights and privacy of the people we serve.
As resources and community needs change, we will continue to adapt our approach and look for effective ways to serve Cle Elum.
We appreciate the City Council’s consideration of this matter and, most importantly, the continued trust and support of our community.
