FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Clear Lake Fire Department Responded to Garage Fire on 16th Avenue North

Clear Lake, Iowa — October 2, 2026 — The Clear Lake Fire Department was dispatched at 4:28 p.m. Friday October 2nd to a reported garage fire at 2310 16th Ave N. in Clear Lake.

The fire originated in the garage attached to the residence. When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully involved with fire. Crews made a rapid interior attack and quickly knocked down the fire, preventing the fire from spreading into the home.

The Clear Lake Fire Department responded with two pumpers, two medic units, and a command vehicle. The Ventura Fire Department provided mutual-aid assistance with two apparatus.

Also assisting at the scene were the Clear Lake Police Department, Clear Lake Public Works, Alliant Energy, and Cerro Gordo County Emergency Management.

The fire was reported by neighbor Bryce Biermann, whose quick call to 911 helped alert emergency responders.

The fire was contained to the attached garage. Damage is estimated at approximately $200,000, including damage to the garage structure and vehicles located inside the garage. The residence was protected from significant fire damage by the rapid response and quick knockdown by firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Clear Lake Fire Department would also like to recognize Bryce and the boys (Pictures) who stayed at the scene and helped firefighters by picking up and rolling hose after the fire was extinguished. Their willingness to lend a hand was appreciated by the firefighters.

A heart-filled thank you to everyone who joined us at the Clear Lake Fire Station for our 25th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Service. It was a deeply moving evening of reflection, unity, and honor.
We extend our profound gratitude to our keynote speaker, retired FDNY Chief Richard Picciotto. His incredible story of survival, courage, and leadership during the World Trade Center collapse served as a powerful reminder of the true cost of service and the strength of the human spirit.
A special thank you to Brodin Studios, Inc. for their exceptional craftsmanship on our new bronzed firefighter statue. This stunning piece marks the first of five statues that will complete our department’s memorial, creating a lasting space for remembrance in our community.
Finally, thank you to all the visiting first responders, surrounding departments who brought vehicles for the lighted truck procession, and the community members who came out to pay their respects. We are honored to serve a community that never forgets.

📖 Mid-Week Spotlight: Hear a Firsthand Account of History & Courage
When the North Tower collapsed on September 11th, FDNY Battalion Chief Richard Picciotto was inside Stairwell B, assisting with the evacuation of civilians and first responders. Buried beneath the rubble for over four hours, Chief Picciotto survived to share one of the most remarkable stories of endurance and sacrifice in American history.
As the author of the national bestseller Last Man Down, Chief Picciotto brings a powerful message about leadership under extreme pressure, duty, and community resilience.
Don't miss this rare opportunity to hear his firsthand story right here in Clear Lake, alongside a special statue unveiling at our 9/11 Memorial in front of the station.
