FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: SEPTEMBER 26, 2026
Cleburne, Texas – The Cleburne Police Department has filed an additional charge against Zora Bliss, 47, in connection with an Aug. 24 pursuit that began in Cleburne and ended in Burleson, where a Cleburne police officer was shot and injured. The driver, Jason Stroud, 43, was struck by gunfire during the incident and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bliss, who was a passenger in the vehicle, now faces a charge of attempted capital murder of a peace officer under the law of parties, a first-degree felony. She has remained in custody at the Johnson County Jail since the Aug. 24 incident on charges of aggravated assault against a peace officer and unlawful possession of a fi***rm by a felon.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, investigators allege Bliss assisted Stroud during the pursuit while he fired multiple rounds toward pursuing Cleburne police officers.
“I’m incredibly proud of the courage and professionalism our officers showed during an extremely dangerous situation, especially the officer who was injured while protecting our community,” said Police Chief Rob Severance. “We’re grateful he continues to recover well, and I also want to recognize the diligent work of our detectives and support staff throughout this investigation. Their commitment and attention to detail reflect the high standards of the Cleburne Police Department.”
The Cleburne Police Department’s investigation into Bliss’ alleged involvement is complete. The Texas Rangers’ separate investigation into the officer-involved shooting remains active. All inquiries pertaining to that investigation should be directed to the DPS – Ranger Division.
As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and Bliss is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
