PGCD brought geology and groundwater lessons to STEAM Middle School in Burleson this week! The PGCD Water Education Trailer has multiple exhibits, including an aquifer model that demonstrates how water and pollution move underground.

Due to rainy conditions at the Farm, Farm Heritage Day has been rescheduled to Sunday, October 11, 2026, 2:00-5:00 PM, from Sunday, October 4, 2026. We hope to see you at the Farm on Sunday, October 11th.

The PGCD office has nearly 9,000 gallons of rainwater storage, and it takes about an inch of rain to max out those systems. You can see what happens when a storm like today's rolls through! While most of the rain falling now will evaporate or become runoff, the water stored in our systems will go toward reducing our irrigation costs and keeping our garden healthy.

The PGCD office is seeing major runoff during this storm, but we've also captured thousands of gallons of rain today with our rainwater harvesting system! You can see the gutter on our carport feeding directly into our hydroponic, recycling planter. That planter will recycle this water for weeks, keeping the plants green long after the rain is gone.

Prairielands GCD’s Rainwater Harvesting Rebate Program provides $1 per gallon of storage, up to $500 per household per year, for eligible residential rainwater harvesting systems in Ellis, Hill, Johnson, or Somervell County.

Rainwater harvesting provides an alternative source of water for outdoor, non-potable uses such as landscape irrigation while helping conserve water. Learn more by visiting prairielandsgcd.org/education/rainwater-harvesting/

Celebrate Waxahachie's official Farm Heritage Day with PGCD! We'll see you at the Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm this Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m..

The 145-acre Ellis County Rural Heritage Farm is the remnant of the Marvin W and Mattie F. Aday Family Farm, with the 1913 farmhouse being the centerpiece.
