During Fire Prevention Month, ensure you and your family or those you live with are prepared in case of a fire.

Make a home escape plan:
1. Draw a map of each level of your home.
2. Show all doors and windows.
3. Go to each room and point to the two ways out.
4. Practice the plan with everyone in your household.

As Fire Prevention Month rolls on, it's important to ensure you have working smoke alarms in your home. It could save your life. Remember:

🏠 Install smoke alarms in every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area, on every level of the home and in the basement.
🚨Use interconnected smoke alarms so that when one sounds, they all sound.
🗓️ Test all smoke alarms at least once a month by pressing the test button.
📄 Working smoke alarms are an important part of a home fire escape plan.

Today, William Moreland was officially sworn in as our next Fire Chief during a formal ceremony, capping off his first week in the position.

Lindsey Simmons, Chief Judge of Clemson University Municipal Court, administered the oath of office and Moreland's family pinned his badge and brass.

Moreland received his helmet and formally assumed command from Fire Marshal Kevin Christenbury, who served as Interim Chief during the transition.

Another great year of Clemson-Central-Liberty Fire Prevention Days in the books! The kids had a great time learning about important fire safety topics and practicing key safety activities like stop, drop and roll, two ways out, and get low and stay low.

This year, nearly 400 kids participated in what has become a two-day event. Thank you to all the schools, teachers, parents and students for being a part of this important day of fire safety education. We can't wait to do it again next year!

It's important to not only charge your devices safely, but to properly dispose of batteries as well.

Never discard batteries, chargers or battery-powered devices in regular trash bins.

Responsibly dispose of old or damaged batteries by taking them to the nearest battery disposal location. There are four in the Clemson area, shown on the map here.

Today, members of CUFD participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at Littlejohn Coliseum, honoring the heroic actions of first responders who gave their lives trying to save others on Sept. 11, 2001.

We will never forget.
